solution, don't use cheese builds. use builds suited for more than one environment.

I agree with this, this map has made stock mech's more viable and has made boats a lot less viable as they can be seen and countered. Finished a match where we faced 4 streak cats and myself in a Trebuchet, and my two allies in a Raven and Cicade killed all 4 and LOL'd on coms.

I've started running lights again because of this map. It appears no one knows how to scout anymore.

Clearly an issue with the game type not the map. THIS IS THE MAP WE WANT. We just don't want Assault. Play Conquest. Trust me, it's a huge step up, it's all I play these days. Cap wins only happen once pretty much all the fighting is over, and even if you lost the fight it's still possible to win if the fight was close enough and you capped more beforehand.

it indeed is better to play conquest these days, theres always a moronic lolcapper around - and the lemming effect then makes for a lolcaprush ... let the lolcapperz play assault on their own and be happy in their capwarrior online ;)

Well, yeah. Except 60% of all possible not-terrible builds are apparently cheese builds. Including but not limited to -

All catapults
Anything using streaks
Anything in a D-DC
PPC boats
Missile boats
Laser boats
Anything with a bunch of SRMs

If I was running a Hunchback on Alpine, unless I happened to be a 4-SP with 2 sets of LRMs or some ER LL build I probably wouldn't be able to contribute a whole lot. If I was in my Stalker, long range or no, I would be way too slow to get to where I needed to be if I found myself at the wrong end of the map or alternatively super mega exposed on top of some mountain somewhere.

I was actually in my 3 UAC5 Muromets (ballistics boat cheese build?) which isn't exactly slow at 70kph and was still far too late to provide assistance to my team before they were totalled. Blah blah blah "better teamwork noob" sure, but that isn't always possible in a PUG group.

Edit to add: this is just my first impressions from playing the map once. Perhaps this will change with time. Also:

Doesn't make stock mechs any less terrible for the maps we already had, though. Which statistically should still be 4/5 drops.

i hope they come out with a new and better game mode instead of just base capping. a team deathmatch game mode wont take anything tatical out. and would be good idea. nothing tactical in base capping.

Deathmatch does take tactics out. Deathmatch only has one tactic, get the most amount of fire power you can, run at the enemy, repeat. Especially if we're talking deathmatch in the traditional sense which means unlimited respawns.

I really don't understand the negativity towards base capping, it's really simple to avoid a base rush:

Use scouts to find enemy
If necessary (i.e. enemy en route), play defensive.
Otherwise, go on offensive and engage enemy
Maintain situational awareness and watch for breakaways going for cap

The fact that people can't cope with that is not a failure of the mechanic, it's a failure of the player

Team Deathmatch on Alpine would be hilarious.

More accurately it should be described as Team Hunting of the Snark.

Don't bother actually fighting, just drop in as a PUG in an ECM Spider and run off in the opposite direction to your team and have fun hiding for 15 minutes while the other team QQs about the fact they can't release their mechs from the game.

Or better yet get a couple of buddies to drop with you in a pack of ECM Ravens and just take out one single enemy mech and then have your whole team play run and hide.

TDM is a horrible idea at the best of times, but only ever works on small coliseum style maps. On large maps you're just asking for fast ECM trolls to play hide and seek for the lulz.
