Exactly what I wanted to read, thank you. Any particular reason why buying cockpits is not advised?

Any time. Although, I don't understand your followup question.

Also, if you really want to have fun, don't play by yourself. Find a good team that shares your style of gaming and get on teamspeak.

The things you can buy for your cockpit are not upgrades but instead fun little things that just make it look different.

The frame of a mech determines it's shape/size, upper limits as to what armor it can have, how fast it can go, and what weapons it can carry. Beyond that battlemechs are all pretty much the same.

The cockpit items are purely cosmetic. Some of them are pricey.

Its not really not advised, or vice versa, it's 100% personal choice if you want some bling in your cockpit.

they're both mech based, the main difference is that in chromehounds weapons were really chassis type limited. like you could only put the long range, accurate weapons on the snipers, the command stuff on the command hound, the support/artillery weapons on the support hound, etc. in MW you can put any weapon on any 'Mech as long as it fits (weight/criticals). there's also a heat factor based on how much energy draw you have to pull from the reactor to fire and continue firing energy based weapons and how much propellant needs to be used to push a ballistic weapon down range.

I hope you're already downloadimg the client, Agauos!

In the meantime, here is an online mechlab creation tool:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...55394935f2507dd

I pre-loaded it with a stock K2, one of my favorite mechs in the game. this gives you a near perfect replica of the mechlab options available in Mechwarrior Online. Try some mechbuilding while you wait for the game to finish downloading, and ne sure to check the New Player Help forum if you have any questions!

I know... they go, "Whelp... i've already bought the system... I guess I'm stuck with whatever crappy games they make for X-station-cube." What is really fun is watching two people argue over a what console is better.

It irks me that you guys turned a legitimate thread from a guy trying to find out about MWO into a console vs. PC rant.

There are plans in the future to be able to load different kinds of ammo, to introduce a lot more weapon systems, probably to allow some sort of HUD customization, you can already buy cockpit items however that is not advised, and in the future there will probably be adjustments to the mech model depending on what sort of weapons you put in a particular spot.

^ this already happens to a degree, you can forget mix and match chassis part like hounds though. Paint scheme options are huge here if you're willing to drop the cioin on unlocking colors. Also your weapon mix is restricted via hardpoints. If i remember CH maps were pretty bland and all very open compared to mwo

How else will they let everyone know how superior they are to other people based on their choice in entertainment systems?

Thanks for clearing that up. This game seems to be as close to Chromehounds as I can get. I originally expected Hawken to fill that void, but that game became what felt like a bland spinoff of Unreal Tournament. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed.

I like the look and feel of this game, and its most similar to what I want, so I'll definitely be playing this and possibly spending some money ;) .

Sadly, I cannot download the client for another hour or two when I get home. :P

The pacing in this game is relatively similar to Chromehounds. But MWO doesn't have working factions and constant warfare over territory like Chromehounds did (yet). Though I doubt there will be battles against other factions super weapons. And if I remember correctly Chromehounds weapons made a lot more sense range wise than most of Mechwarriors.

Only to a limited extent. Chromehounds emphesis "Roles" more then any other Mech game I have seen. MWO is trying to get close. But, I don't think it will get near as much emphesis on "Roles" as Chromehounds has.

Advice for a 1st timer, hit the training grounds tab/ad on the launcher and watch the vids, they are a little convoluted but give some good tips starting out.

Don't be put off by the trial mechs as they tend to run hot and sub optimized, things get better once you drop some c-bills and customise one you own.

Burn through 25 matches in the trials (you get an cadet bonus on c-bills during this) then look at what you can afford (which will be nearly anything short of a pre-upgraded or assault variant) and do a little research on what you like to make sure you can do what you want to with it (sometimes hardpoint locations and combinations of gear can be a issue) .

Other than that enjoy and welcome to the community B)
