I want to get into the medium game, I'm tired of being slow, and I don't want to be a zoom-zoom scout. Something that will fit ALL ranges well. I want to be able to take the same mech and use it for everything needed.

For the current meta game it seems the TBT variants will be for you. Before this patch, I would prolly have said HBKs.

Voted all because I could. I love the hunches, the trashbucket has its place, and Centys after the buffs might well be worth it too depending on your preferred playstyle.

All 3 are viable medium mechs with the right config.

First wanted to say Cicada, then I read your post hehe. I have a reflex of not reading Openeing Posts on polls. gets me into "trouble" often.

They all fit for what you want I guess. But the best might be the Trebuchet or the Centurion variants that have missile energy and ballistic hardpoints, since you are looking for a versatile mech that can play in many roles. If you're into Jumpjetting as a plus then maybe the Trebuchet is your way to go.

What your describing is a dragon more then it is a medium mech. Most mediums are close brawlers, or in the buckets case lrm support(people no doubt use it as a brawler). Dragon can be built to be a well rounded mech suited for all scenarios, and it's fast.

If you want speed and you want to be able to mimic loadouts, the trebuchet is probably best for you.

The HBK-4SP is a very nice machine. So is the HBK-4P. You can't go wrong with either (just don't stuff the 4P with nine medium lasers!)

The only downside to mastering Hunchbacks is you're going to wind up being "forced" to use a variant other than the superior 4P and 4SP. The cheap way out is to take the 4J and treat it like a 4SP, just put all the SRMs in the hunch.

But really, anyone who claims to be a Hunchback "master" must spend some time with the canonical AC20 build, either a 4G or 4H. I've seen people do quite well with the founders Hunch.

Mediums are very nice starter mechs. I suggest the Centurion, or Hunchback though and maybe the Trebuchet later when your more experianced if you go for an XL engined variant.

From your description, any Medium would do except the Cicada. Dragons too.

You've got four choices, pick any one you like best. We don't know your hardpoint preferences.

I think as a mech that covers all ranges, with versatility of builds in a single mech, it is hard to go past the Centurion 9A or 9D.

Good mix of Ballistic, Energy and Missile. Has Zombie mode if you stay standard engine. Easily handles Endosteel. Ballistics up to Gauss in the arm. Missiles, 2 (D) or 3 (A) hardpoints in the same torso.

Only disadvantage would be with Energy hardpoints. 2 both located in the Centre Torso, prohibiting a PPC, and limiting other options.

The new tweaks make it even better.

When I started I picked Centurions 'cause I didn't see very many of them at the time, and Hunchback was a trial mech so I wanted something else to try. Centurion was the first mech I worked up all of the elite efficiencies for on the 3 variants, but in hind sight, I like the hard-points (and thus the config. options) better on most of the Hunchbacks.

Hunchbacks are solid and reliable with (imo) better options for loadouts...

Centurions are my favorite mech to pilot. I won't deny the awesomeness of the Hunchbacks (Great buys, I just like the feel of cents more) and Trenchbuckets are starting to make their mark in battle.

IMO Hunchbacks are the most reliable Medium Mech for you to run, but Centurions are great once you get the hang of them. Protect your gun arm (Unless you are zombieing that is ) and you will be fine.

I haven't played the Trebuchet yet, but I'm planning on getting one soon. From what I have seen they are a great mech to choose, but I don't know what it is like to pilot one.

4sp is probably the best all around. You can't do long range damage but you can easily stay on par or even outperform heavies and assaults if you get in close, damage-wise.

I have the Hunchbacks and Centruions, I am eyeing the Trebuchets next (wish i wouldnt' have wasted my cbills on stalkers).

The Centurions are faster than the hunchbacks and in my opinion a better platform. They are a little bigger but the massive arms allow you to soak up damage and protect your torso and weapon systems. Additionally having 2 Md Lasers in the center torso will allow you to continue to be a threat long after a HBK would be destroyed.

Hunchbacks are a little more versitile allowing a huge range of loadouts, but they are a little more vulnerable. The HBK tends to subscribe to the "best defense is a good offense" mentality.

The Trebuchets look interesting, I have my eye on the 7K, although the 7M (jump jets) looks nice as well. NOTE: the TBT's are the fastests and only jump capible medium mechs.
