When I use any combination of either of the 8 GB Corsair sticks and one of my old 4 GB sticks, I can run without a hitch. This makes absolutely NO sense to me. Neither of the sticks is faulty, they simply don’t want to work together even though they’re a matched dual-channel pair.

Sounds like a RAM issue.

Sounds like you are mixing RAM, not using the package pair?

Assuming your BIOS gives you so level of control, drop your RAM speed down a notch with the Cosair installed. If it's DDR3, drop from 1600, to 1333, for example.

Shouldn't be much of a performance loss, but the lower RAM speed might stop the crash.

Copy paste the dump file data from this: http://www.nirsoft.n...creen_view.html

Should give more information.

The issue was actually only occurring when I DID use the boxed pair together. I forgot to mention in my post about the JEDEC ratings I was seeing, when I mixed the old and new sticks (the working combination), the highest-level JEDEC ratings for BOTH of the inserted sticks (one old and one new) evened out at exactly 800 MHz.

Honestly, I think it just comes down to it being lousy RAM. There is no 814mhz JEDEC standard for DDR3, or any other kind of RAM.

I guess it's one more reason for me to just restrict my RAM purchases to G.skill :)

Could be overclocked FSB, hence the 814mhz, also possible the ram is not supported by the motherboard, and needs to be lowered.

800mhz = 1600mhz.
Drop it to 1333mhz in the BIOS (if you can), some motherboards prefer lower speeds depending on how much ram is installed. Make sure the timings are correct as well. (Should be a sticker on the RAM with like 9-9-9-24 or something)

When you install two different sticks, it probably drops them both to the lowest values, the default for the cheaper RAM, and runs correctly because of this.

When paired, either the timings are not correct for that particular RAM set or the Motherboard/Processor is having trouble reading it at that speed. Either A. Motherboard/Processor cannot run that amount of RAM or that brand at 1600mhz, or the timings are too low.

Clearly it's not an FSB issue since it's only that RAM that suffers the problem, and there's no reason to believe that capacity or timings should cause an issue for the board since an equal capacity, LOWER timing kit works fine.

I'm sure there's some specific explanation, but at the end of the day it probably doesn't matter. The RAM had a compatibility issue, and given the rarity if that these days and the function of another similar kit, I'm far more apt to just blame it on a lousy kit. Why is it lousy? Who knows; who cares. The OP's got it solved, and that's what matters.

Not the FSB, the RAM frequency. The FSB will only incease the frequency if you over clocked it.

The motherboard has a list of supported of RAM types, should be available online. If your RAM is not listed, then it is suggested that you lower the frequency to troubleshoot.

RAM compatability is pretty common with DDR3, that's why motherboards come with a supported Vendors list now.

Of course the FSB will only increase RAM frequency when you OC; that's why it you shouldn't have brought the FSB up, silly :P

It has nothing to do with the issue.

In any case, RAM compatibility is pretty universal these days, but you always have dud kits and funny boards floating around. It's not important to stress out over why the budget Corsair kit didn't want to work. What's important is that the new kit is working, and OP is happy.
