okay i've only been on it twice in assault mode but both times there was sniping and brawling and it felt like a mechwarrior game where skills and navigation mattered more than weapon stack effeciency. if anything i want more maps like this with more objectives.

is it time to retire the cap points and scale up to building and turret destruction and recon info stealing etc etc?

I've played alpine about 10 times. Never ended in a base cap.

3: communicate via text chat, find the enemy via scouting/spotting, while remaining near base, and then vector in on them.

Text chat does wonders, all it takes is being willing to type and read. If you're in combat just report the grid. If you're not in combat you can take time to type.

yeah thats true

My experience so far has never ended in either of your two possible outcomes. They have been interesting fights, that have never ended in cap, but with several meta-fights over base control (lights trying to sneak a cap, meds detaching from main confrontation to counter). I'm sure I'm going to end up in a boring fight sooner or later on Alpine, but I have yet to be in a game that ends in anything but total team obliteration.

I've only gotten it a few times, but every one has been a fight. That doesn't change the indisputable fact that it has the potential to be worst base-race map... at least until other maps of similar size come out. I'm not one that believes the cap mechanic should be completely removed, despite hating base-races, and wouldn't want to play in a pure TDM. But I do want to encourage improved mechanics, especially on the larger maps.

finding the (the deity you follow) dammed mechs is the only thing i even plan on doing.... Love the map but i do hope it will be the small maps of the next generation as every time i drop i love the challenge.

and i do mean small.... taking over planets should not be a easy thing to do..

Before Alpine i never played assault if i had the choice.

After Alpine i leave the group if they wanna play assault. Screw the lolcappers, really. Theres always one ****** in a pool of 16.

edit: why is r3t4rd filtered ? is this really too harsh a word to use in a forum ? :D
