You can only use them once per match per person. So there will be no spamming them.

Right but 8 people per team means up to 8 airstrikes. thus it is possible for a team to spam them.

Given what we know of LRM's and their Flight paths, LRB's would likely be avoidable in the same fashion. In a Cityscape, hug a building opposing the incoming shells. For the Airstrikes, given they are noted to be vector based, don't everyone stand in a straight line and if a warning is given, in the city, get out of those long streets that just beg to get strafed.

Just like LRM's. If you want to stand out in the open and assume your bullet proof, some guy out there, on the enemy team, will quickly show you the error of your ways. Just like they do now.

I am just not seeing the need for all the super paranoia. If a 35% Flush cost 25MC, a battery barrage call-in that saturates an "area" will likely not be at all spammable, unless of course Bill gates kids are playing. LOL

Check out the clarification thread. Doesn't look like airstrikes will be very stackable in that way, fortunately.

All previous PGI comments on this matter (Air and Artillery strikes) make reference to them almost assuredly commander exclusive. In the context of modules if that is how they are implemented it means the only the commander can call it in. Everyone else will be wasting module space. Since they have not said anything about it. I doubt they will be modules anyways. Rampant and irrational speculation like this is silly.

I try not to worry about things that haven't happened yet, it's kinda like saying the sky is falling before it even starts to rain

Yeah, it'll just get added than you can all use them at once and insta win. What else would we do, like, stagger uses? HAH!

That's still not a very good idea when you have 2 dozen per team.

Hey guys..

No. Arty and Air Strikes work differently.

Paul is going to post the details shortly.

Here's some highlights.
  • There are cooldown timers. Cooldown timers make sure there is a space between shots and prevents a team coordinating a single massive strike.
  • CB Version does more damage but is slower to target. 10,000 CB
  • Posted Image Version does less damage but is faster to target. 25 Posted Image
  • Only one of each can be equipped.
  • Only one user per match.
  • Consumed when used.

"One user per match."

How do you even balance that, people who just fight over who gets to use it without any real tactical conern. Not to mention it contradicts the cooldown timer comment.

I tend to agree with your speculation.
The Air Strikes and Artillery will most likely target a specific grid-coordinate, not a specific 'Mech.
And as others have suggested, Betty will probably give you a fair warning when the bombs are about to drop - so you'll probably have a chance to get out of harms way.

However, some people enjoy ignoring Betty (Incoming Missiles, Base Under Attack...), so I'm sure a lot of people will fall to these new attacks.

NUUUUUUUUUU!!! Noone ignores Betty!! She soundses soooo HAAWWT!! :) LOL

Reading is important. YOU can use yours once per match. There is a global cooldown to prevent spamming of it. Once that cooldown is up, someone else can launch theirs.

Are you going to change the way Coolant works so their is a variety choice and not "this one is better" similar to how you say arty and air works?

Read IS important and so is writing.
  • Only one of each can be equipped.
  • Only one user per match.
  • Consumed when used.
One "user" not use.

Preceding and following point states that you can only carry one so obviously you can only use yours once.
One "user" is a completely different matter.

Fixed that for you. The way it was reading makes it sound like there can only be one USER per match instead of one USE per match.

Thanks for replying Bryan and Garth.

I'm still skeptical about how much fun 16 combined airstrikes and artillery hits per side, per match is going to be in a 5-10 minute match - but at least there are some restrictions.

The proper way to limit airstrikes and arty is require the command module to be mounted so this would limit it to certain command mechs. Then have a global timer on air strikes and a seperate global timer for artillery since planes have to circle around and artillery has to reload. Is this how it is?
