How does it make assaults better? They dont have 14 free crit slots for FF.

Why not just reduce the number of slots FF armor takes up? Leave Endo at 14 and put FF armor at like 8 or 10.

Ok let me lay this out for you. Other than the fact light mechs have a really small payload of weapons, and they have room for FF armor, they don't get it for any other reason then they need the tonnage. In fact, making FF armor give more armor, is more likely to cause diversity, rather than have all light mechs use it. Most lights get .5-1 tons out of it, and all of them need it. If you were to put it on, that would be -.5 tons to -1 ton for lights. They would get more armor, but they are already strapped for weight.

My Jenners have about 11 tons for weapons and ammo and heatsinks, the highest of any light mechs (The Raven usually has 11.5, but every one of the 3Ls will carry ECM, so 10). Changing FF armor would make it 9 tons. That's like an SRM launcher for not a lot of armor (28 spread all over, like 4 more a part? That's not a lot). While it wouldn't mean every light uses FF armor, a lot more heavier mechs would make the consideration because they would actually have more tons to give up, and would actually get some armor on themselves. While its true that it weighs a lot more (because you probably can't use Endo as well, so like 7-9 tons), they would get something out of it.

It would be like every non-ECM thing in the game, it would have a benefit and a cost and all mechs would want it, but not every mech can make use of the small benefits.

Lastly, if the problem is lagshield, which is pretty small now, then you can't just say NO. Lagshield will not be around forever and is not an important part of the game. Making light mechs better, and assaults, and making them have a choice, that's BT.

Thered be no reason not to put 12% more armor on a light mech. And heavys and assaults wont benefit from it.

All youre doing is making light mechs even stronger.

pretty sure an atlas would be more affected by a 12% increase in allowed armor then a light, and if they keep like it is but also make it increase the allowed amount of amror, then you could choose between keeping your current amount of armor and reducing tonnage, or keeping your tonnage and increasing your armor rating

imo, they should make it so it boost the max armor enough so you can can also take up some spare tonnage (say .43) with some more armor, and of course make the upgrade itself more expensive

maybe they could introduce different armors for different types of dmg, so they could have one that is strong against laser but weak against kinetic and explosive energy while weighing the same as regular armor that would come with the mech and vice versa, then have a heavy duty, all around armor. that is stronger then regular armor against everything, but also heavier, they have so much you can do to make your mech do more dmg, like put 6 ppcs on a stalker, but you can't really do much to counter it with defense except max out your armor and hope for the best, this is kinda why they keep having to nerf stuff imo

ff armor would fit in as another armor you could buy that doesn't make your armor stronger, just lighter

forgot to mention, make it another option to structure so you could choose lighter weight for whatever it is you want, or choose a different armor for better defensive, and again, make it more expensive, lights might pick endo because they have more free slots, heavies might pick ff (or some improved armor i just mentioned)because they would have more tonnage to play with, and could benefit from more armor

also, i recommend reading what icefang said, pretty well said man

and like falconic said, reduce the slots it takes to help benefit heavies who are chock full of awesomeness and don't have that many slots to spare
