I played my light with tag and ams and got 1 kill and 60 dmg with no actual weapon attached. Anyone care to help me out why that happened. How did i do it?

You can damage other mechs by running into them, but 60 is a lot.

That's... interesting. The only thing I can think of is collision damage, but 60 points of it? Also, I don't think collision damage registers on the post-match screen anyway.

If you had a weapon I would say it was Savior/Defensive assists, they show as Savior/Defense Kills on the post-match screen, but without a weapon...

Buggy :(

Perhaps you ran into a guy with red internals and his ammo exploded.

I just thought of this as well, that seems to be the only reasonable way to hit 60.

edit:
One other thought, does AMS hurt mechs if it shoots at a missile behind them?

That would explain it since i was running around and hitting people alot while doing it, trying to tag things and stop them missiles reach our players. Thanks alot guys.

If it did, it'd be damned effective...
It has a projectile damage of 2, and a RoF of 30, meaning a DPS of 60(!) - or 150 times the DPS of a single MG.

I just wish I could trick my targeting computer into thinking enemy 'mechs were LRMs...

EDIT: It has 2 DPS - see posts below. Still 2.5 times higher than the MG.

Maybe the damage done to missiles registers as actual damage?

Easily Tested I suppose. Put just AMS on a really fast Mech and hope the enemy has missiles. Intercept some and see if you register damage points at the end. Best done with friends though. :(

Nopes, haven't got any damage done after that 1 match with the same setup. If it was the ams i would of got damage done in every fight.

I was thinking this too, gotta try to test it out somehow. I was in middle of alot of enemies and they were shooting missiles at me every now and then so there could of been a situation where someone was between the missiles and me.

But srsly, I expect ammo explosion.

I haven't read dev confirmation on this, but I've read on the forums before that the AMS bullet stream is more or less an illusion. The game calculates if there's LOS to the missiles and starts damaging them and adds in the bullet effect after the calculations are done.

Whether that's true or not, I seriously doubt AMS is capable of damaging mechs, especially because as stjobe mentioned the damage it has would be ridiculous if it could.

This.
Its only natural to implement the AMS system as an "illusion", while the real calculations are done behind the scenes.
It has many advantages and i would be surprised if this wasnt the case.

1. You are assured to never run into the problem with hurting mechs because theyre in the line of fire (which would be unintended obviously)

2. You dont have to calculate flight path of AMS system as accurately (-> performance)

3. You dont have to calculate AMS hitboxes (-> performance)

4. Easier to implement (saves working time)

Oh cool, you can??

I did not know that. Till now I had assumed there was no collision damage at all in the game. When my weapons were blown off, I'd either try to distract the other team or cap.

Since Christmas I have had 3 or 4 games where my kills, assists and xp were given to another player at the end of the round. This is despite it showing during the game that I achieved the kills, plus correctly displaying the damage dished out. Winning a round with 900+ damage and no kills or assists, while someone else ends up with 92 damage and 5 kills 3 assists hurts! This could happened to the OP, though that 60 damage is a mystery. Its possible he rammed someone and blew out their ammo bins I suppose...

Could've sworn a dev said AMS did 2 DPS

I stand corrected. Thank you. So I guess it's 30 projectiles @ 0.06 damage then.

That still makes it 2.5 times higher than the MG DPS.

It`s there, but it`s like, 1 or something....

My (so dfar) only TK was actually a collision... I walked over the edge of the bridge on RC and all of a sudden I read in the chat and am like "WTF? I didn`t fire anything 0.o" ... then the guy answered "You need to watch where you step" or something to that extent... I died about 10 seconds later because I was still laughing so hard. :D

To my defense, a fly taking a dump on his shoulder would have cored him, he was already pretty beat up. :(

Right now the collision damage code is piggy backing on the landing leg damage code. So when you ram a mech you should only see a little leg damage happen. (Collision Callback)

Design has not indicated they want the system upgraded at this time.

Saw a funny instantiation of this a few days ago, where a centurion got stuck on a stalker (who was also stuck) on the main mountain in Alpine... they just kept ramming into each other until the centurion eventually killed himself by ripping both his own legs off.

It was pretty awesome, I must admit. I regret not frapsing it.
