I like steam because the games are cheep and the update happen with out you rooting throw net-land to find them.
Game with 3 party DRM I don't buy until thy are 3$ and by that time most of the 3party DRM are removed from the software.

Do I think MWO should be on Steam, "Hell yes" it would promote the game to million and give PGI a good way to Farm out the download.

They're nowhere near stable or feature-complete to offer on Steam yet. But when they do, they could just take a nice two our drive south to Seattle and talk to them in person about it to expedite the whole process.

Why in the world limit themselves to Steam's restrictions? Why pay Steam for the right to appear on it?

It's called massive exposure to a huge playerbase.

Putting the game on Steam means that they will take out a large amount of the game's revenue. Unless the game is failing, there's no need or real benefit to do that. Most games are on Steam because they're desperate, not because they want to. Successful games however, usually avoid Steam. You won't ever see League of Legends on there.

I hate Steam based on principle. I should NOT be forced to run an extraneous program just so I can run another different program. I wish all PC games had a stand alone client. I haven't bought a single retail PC game in years because they all require Steam or GFWL or (oh god) Origin.
By all means have a steam version but please have the option of a stand alone client.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that steam be required but that MWO be made available through steam to attract more players

Any program that tries to pointlessly run in the background at all times needs to die. A steam option would be ok but honestly even now that I've paid money into this I would not play if it was another steam only game. I hate steam.

Ugh, no. Number one I have enough user names and passwords to remember as it is. Number two, it's nice and simple now. Go to mwomercs.com, sign up, download, play. I don't know how steam works, but things that wind up on there seem to be exclusively on there, and that only has the potential to hurt this game.

Many f2p games that have their own clients have been made available on steam lately. It is a great way to boost exposure. Those games also do not require steam so noone ever needs to use it.

I would also love to see MWOnline on Steam. As a gamer I love the service. I've purchased many games through it at far less than retail prices. With most games it makes playing with friends much easier. I don't believe Steam titles are exclusive since many appear on Origin and consoles. Plus with the new Greenlight functionality, Valve seems to be showing independent studios a lot of love.

Now, to be fair, I've also purchased a few VERY buggy games, but really it was my own fault for not researching them. Steam even makes that easier with reviews attached to each game. I have had a few rare problems with games and tried to get a refund to no avail, so perhaps that's a mark against them.

I also dislike that it constantly runs in the background, but that's more me being defiant of the intrusion since my system can handle it without problem.

Admittedly I don't understand the process, but I'm pretty sure Steam acts as a third party connector and vendor and doesn't step on a developer's shoes. The revenue loss is another argument. I haven't a clue what Steam would take as its cut. I doubt that it would be a "large portion", but it may be too much for MWO to endure. Then again... there are already a lot of FTP games on the service.

The claim that only unsuccessful or desperate games are on Steam is untrue. All kinds of successful games are available at all stages of their lifecycle from pre-ordering to the bargain bin, including many multi-platform titles and popular new releases. I believe the games that appear on there has more to do with licensing deals between Valve and the developer, not desperation on the part of a developer.

MechWarrior titles often have trouble receiving the attention and longevity they deserve, with mostly dedicated fans of the tabletop game, previous video games, or books making up the base. Steam is a good way to instantly get the game exposed to over four million gamers.

Then... and again, I'm not sure if this is even possible... but if MWO were to eventually make it to the Steam Workshop where users could keep adding battlemechs long after support is over... with THIS BA engine... so. much. happiness.

I dunno. Just thought I'd throw my vote in the "for" hat.

im guessing it has to do w/ microsoft owning rights...could be wrong though

microsoft bought skype before Steam got the license to use Skype technology with their voice chat. Microsoft flight simulator is also on it. The benifit that steam gets is more people using steam, thus more people looking at other games.

At the very least, I'd like MWO to work with the Steam Overlay. World of Tanks isn't on Steam but I launch it through Steam so that I can chat with my friends while in game. It also helps to gather my friends to the game. When one of us starts up WoT, we're all notified and then can choose to join up in game. When I'm playing MWO now, none of my friends are aware of it unless they too start MWO. Basically, the Steam Overlay will get my friends and I to play more. That's good, right?
