Niko has now changed his official response in the other thread and performed a U turn, apparently you DO get rewards if you disconnect after death.

Future reference: Let the devs tell us how the game works and not the web guy

According to the devs in the following thread from New Player Help

http://mwomercs.com/...e-dc-crediting/

If you die ingame and disconnect before the match is over you are losing out on CBill rewards.

to quote: Niko Snow

You will only receive rewards obtained before you disconnected. To earn match rewards, you must observe the match.

and to clarify: (Niko Snow)

Please note that the change occurred before we started putting extra work into our more recent patch notes and hot fix details in the wake of period where the devs were killing off a much more sizeable pool of both bugs and scheduled content. ^It was also announced in advance to the community.

While I can appreciate a continued desire for more detailed notes, keep in mind a bit of perspective: We are already providing more complete notes than most released games despite being in Beta. We have been improving the level of detail being provided and often been available to answer any more specific questions regarding those notes. This one just got noticed a little later by the community, especially as those most directly affected by the change (ie, the farmers) would not have been inclined to admit to their activities.

and

Keeping in mind the modest team size, the beta flag and big goals ahead: Please understand that any energy you feel is missing from the Dev team in these notes is typically being channeled directly into the next improvement.

Otherwise, some have also asked that we give out more and more statistical data of upcoming changes and such. If we give away all the statistics, more often than not it negates qualitative play testing commentary that could have been and replaces it with passionate a priori arguments over arithmetic. Typically, we can benefit a great deal more from the feedback of an immediate impression of the changes rather than one with a calculated preconception.

I thoroughly read every command chair post, patch notes and announcement. I had no knowledge of this change.

Last I heard about this was the Oct 30th 2012 command chair post with Bryan Ekman stating:

Quitting/Disconnecting Early - While Still Alive
  • You will only receive rewards up to the point of disconnection.
  • NOTE: If you are dead, you will receive earned rewards, plus match rewards.
Read it yourself here: http://mwomercs.com/.../66088-farming/

Hey Kanajashi,

well I think generally speaking your position is the same most of us thought what was going on, I know I did.

Yet the above linked thread in New Player Help is telling a totally different story to what we thought was happening. The discussion is going on there...

http://mwomercs.com/...e-dc-crediting/

This poll seemed an effective way of measuring 'who knew?'

Yeah im watching both threads actually :(

I thought that I would put a link to the previous command chair post and reaffirm that there was no documentation of this change so people who had no knowledge of the situation would have some perspective.

I knew. It mostly affects players that rush forward in lights and die, then dc and start a new game.

(psssst that's how people used to farm cbills it was pretty fugging annoying.)

I dont get how this was both 'announced in advance' and then Niko goes onto explain at some length why it was NOT documented.

Could it be that Bryan Eckman's post should have read:

Quitting/Disconnecting Early - While Still Alive
  • You will only receive rewards up to the point of disconnection.
  • NOTE: If you are dead, you will receive earned rewards, plus match rewards.
(BUT what we're not telling you is that if you die and disconnect before game ends you forfeit certain CBill rewards)

That's not really the issue here...

The main issue is that there was a change to the economy without it being told to the community. Because of this there are a lot of rightfully earned c-bills not being awarded properly. I would equate it to the tax man not informing you about changes the requirements to file your taxes, then penalizing you because you did not know. Can you imagine if that happened with real money and not c-bills?

Do you really mean it this time? :(

And you realize we are probably talking 10, 20k CBills. Basically, when you die, and disconnect, you get everything for the match up to that point plus the overall win/loss reward at the end.

What you don't get is the assist bonus if a mech you shot before you died is then killed after you die and disconnect (7500 CBills.) I can't think of any other reward that you would miss out on.

But, yes, clarification would be nice. And, really, I think this is fair but that is just my opinion.

no nobody I noticed did this

It is not lucrative at all

you would make like 30,000 at best if you did something stupid like this

they only way to make good money is to dish out good damage and win

this does not mean I should be penalized for going down before some of my teammates

this is a terrible change that not only just shut my wallet up

but will make all my friends who play so upset, they will likely quit completely

ok if I get 4 kills then die, and leave, and my team goes on for an easy win

I don't get the credits for the win?

PS cute comment, but I have never claimed to quit MWO on this forum or elsewhere

you must be thinking of someone else?

or perhaps a comment I made in the third person thread, stating I WOULD quit if 3rd person was added

well I guess I'll just become the most annoying backseat driver in MWO, because spectating in this game is painful 90% of the time

Oh, come on, the emoticon indicated it was a joke. I just love all the "What, PGI did what?? I'M QUITTING!" comments, whether it was your first or last. I don't even really identify posts with a given poster but for a few extreme examples.

If you do not spectate until the end and choose to DC after dying you do not receive MATCH REWARDS.

you DO get the basic win/loss reward, damage rewards, component destruction and kill/assist rewards.

you DO NOT get the Salvage Bonus from assault or Resource Bonus from conquest.

which is a terrible terrible mechanic

even If I am one of the top damaging members of my team

I might have to wait for 5-10 minutes to receive what I just earned

spectating is so damn painful, who has time for watching people flail around?

what If I am stuck spectating a 2AC2+LRM atlas or something equally worthless??

basically this is just another incentive to play OTHER games

which is sad

I love battletech

but every month makes me dislike MWO more

I usually generate more salvage than anyone else on my team, so most wins this wont effect me

but when it does I am getting triply screwed by this system

however if my team is getting rolled

I have to WATCH it happen to get my consolation prize

so stupid

You might want to change the opening post to include this new information.

uhh, this is news?

it's been this way for months. for that matter i think it's been this way since closed beta. as a general rule, pay attention to what happens, and believe that over what pgi says. because, well, what happens...actually happens. what pgi says, well, who knows
