My first attempt:

It runs too hot, but packs a huge punch. (I went standard engine due to the fact that side torsos look rather large)

You can Swap out the PPC for a Large Pulse Laser if you want to have more firepower in a brawl.
I have to say, I am almost glad they added the PPC ghost heat nerf, otherwise we would be running into these:

You thought the 6 PPC Stalker was bad? Well say hello to the 7 PPC Battlemaster!

I'm looking at running something like this, possibly on the 1D chassis: Battlemaster No-SRM Brawler. I've been playing with a faster XL version to try out, but I haven't found one I really like yet... Maybe something like this? Battlemaster XL Brawler
I also feel like you could make a peakaboo sniper with those high shoulder energy mounts.

Can't say that I did. It was dangerous to get hit by... once. And then it died while cooling down.

This build could be fun. Basically it is a base Battlemaster, but the Engine has been downgraded to a STD 300 and the machine guns have been upgraded to AC2's. I wouldn't run it, but it could be fun...

Also, this is a modified version of my earlier build. Swapped out the machine gun and the machine gun ammo for BAP (only thing that weighs 1 and 1/2 tons and fits in two crit slots.

Two arm shields, STD engine, even losing one side doesn't take you out of the fight. Runs hot if you alpha, but if you go chain fire...
Fairly nasty.

It won't. But I wouldn't power up. It's gonna take a LONG time to recover safely. When's the last time you tried to alpha strike a 6 ER PPC stalker?
Give it a shot. Just... do it far from the enemy. And do NOT power back up by force. That's when you die.

My rig has more armor and no ammunition dependency. It needs to be able to take the abuse after the 7 ER PPC alpha strike. It's almost 45 seconds of being powered off.
You're both doing it wrong

I'm not sure using tonnage on one srm6 with respect to artemis is efficient. I'd use that for more ammo or heat sinks...etc..
for me I think I want to try an 400XL and just squeeze as much weaponry that I can.

Seems optimal, to me, at least, and logistically sound, considering a majority of the mechs I operate can carry up to a 360 XL engine.
