As an off-shoot of a conversation that came up in another thread, I'd like to conduct a discussion (from both out-of-universe and in-universe/RP perspectives) of the FRR's relationships with the Houses.
The original discussion, conducted primarily between Kyone Akashi and myself, is from this thread (starting with post #35 around the three-quarters mark of the second page, and continuing through to the fourth page).
One of the primary sources used was 20 Year Update, written from the perspective of Wolfnet (the Wolf's Dragoons' intelligence service) and ROM (ComStar's intelligence service) operatives as of approximately January 3050 (that is, roughly 2 months before the Clans' invasion begins in earnest) and quoted by Carl Wrede here.
So, citizens of the FRR (and anyone else who might wish to productively contribute to the discussion): how would you characterize the Republic's relationships with the Successor States (from either or both in-character and out-of-universe perspectives), and how do you feel (again, from either or both in-character and out-of-universe perspectives) about said relationships?

RP wise we just want to hang out and enjoy our independence while trying to be friends with everyone so we don’t get attacked. We can’t afford to get in a fight because or military never gets very big. On a personal level we either hate Kurita or Stiner depending on who owned your planet before the FRR. The even trade policy is to try and keep both sides happy.
As far as this game goes, I see us going after the combine and being friendly with the lyrans. I think most FRR people in the game side with the commonwealth but, would be happy to have either one as an ally if it means staying alive. That being said we are going on a drunken rampage across space when CW comes out.

Hmm i don't know about that, at least the Combine was open with their intentions to conquer us, the Lyrans pretended they were helping and then decided not to leave our "rescued" worlds.
