Hey Moon,

I finally got my work done, now I've got a questions.
Do you want a certain min/max image size or thumbnails? And do you need images for different views in seperate files, or is a image with 7500x2000 pixel ok?
What about uploades before the vote here or on Deviant Art?

Sizes: Just the biggest size you want people to see.
Separate or not: The 7500x2000 is better so I don't have to piece them together to save space
Uploading: You can do what ever you want! But make sure you e-mail it in, posting images here won't be considered a valid entry. :P

Can't wait to see!

Just to clarify: you can post your submission here. I meant that it's not a valid entry if you only post it here and not e-mail it. But you submitted it so you're all good. Showing it off early is up to you and you're allowed.

Thank you for running this contest!
I’d love to see the Marauder getting into MWO and even more so, if it would be my design. The prices are “only” a nice addition for me. :P
Here is my submission to the Marauder design contest.

Title: “King of the Hill”

Description text:
I used photoshop with the line, brush and select tools and got inspired by several images listed below
- Legs mostly from the Reseen Marauder.
- Lower arms from Flying Debris Mech-Hangar picture.
- Side torso and upper arms from the MWO Cataphract.
- Barrel from the MWO Shadowhawk
- Center from the MWO Catapult.
- Shoulder “shields” from the Awesome/Griffin

The Cockpit was though. The big one-window cockpits look quite good, but there needs to be a smaller “center”-window for MWO to be the hitbox and the Cockpit should not turn into a easy to shoot deathtrap (for source books and other outside-MWO stuff).
The forward bend torso with lot of good armored windows to every side will give Marauder pilots a great view to every side, making this a perfect mech for commanders or elite pilots wreaking havoc on the battle field.
(about 110 degrees to both sides, 90 degrees up and about 50 degrees down)

While the Marauder looks quite good without the shields, they serve as side torso and shoulder joint protection and lower the chance to lose the side torso (XL engine), or the Autocannon barrel before the arm.
(If there will be additional sections like the LRM launchers for the MadCat/Timberwolf (instead of the side torso), the “shields” of this Marauder could also be used in that regard and even protect the arms themselves.)

And here is the result in 7500x2000 pixel:

Posted Image

and here is a 50% sized image for smaller screens:

yeah i made a consession on that by adding reseen style shaoulder armour and making sure it covered some side torso towards the rear {unlike the actuall reseen art!} problem is in just about all artwork the arms are low slung like the cataphract. it's the nature of the design :( they'll always fall under the "head line" of the mech. still at least the cockpit is armoured up to total capacity and would be hard to shoot.

Oh man, I just now noticed this contest. I'm definitely going to give it a go when I have time between projects.

I've always loved the Marauder, but the original design looked like it would collapse under it's own weight, and it took some imagination to figure out how it was supposed to walk. I think the design language that's been established for MWO is perfect to help address some of those issues as well as pulling the look away from the HG property.

Reading through the posts it looks like there's already some great feedback on what you guys want to see in the design, that should give me a great jumping off point. It should be fun trying to see how much of it's original character can be preserved while still giving it proper proportions and functionality.

Great stuff so far everyone, I look forward to seeing more!

After reading though all 10 pages of this post and only been with the mechwarrior universe since MW4 I don't hold the same level of nostalga as everyone else. I for one would welcome a fresh "reseen" modification that spirtually resembels a marauder but doesn't flag HG's pms meter about copyright. At this point even if it doesn't "look" like one why can't we all just suck it up and let them make one, everyone wins right? Flame away against me if you must but at this point I'd rather just have the damn mech in my dropships hangerbay waiting to trade metal with someone.

i get what you're saying but consider this.

you watched ferraris race. you swoned over the f40 you've grown up seeing this thing on the road and on the track for ages.

so finally you save the money you've waited long and hard for this one and go to the dealership to purchase that star ferrari.

then the dealer offers you a lancia stratos... it has a ferrari engine and in it's own right is a good car. still you know how it ends. they're two different things, now a detamaso or such would almost win out but a lancia doesn't fit and the dealership says sorry that's all we have now.

yep i'd walk away from this game if they caved into the "anything will do just stick a name tag on it and all is well" crowd. i understand the IP problems which is why i've changed the look of every feature in my drawings but have kept some of the princibles that made it the alien lobster style mech that it was. with a long barrel gun on top! no shadowcat-cataphract-catapult whatever mech will do. it has to be a ferrari, marauder or it just isn't. it's a pretender at best.

I get that a lot of people have grown up with the classic design and I get it that many would consider it a sin. I and I'm sure many others are thankful for you and the many others whom's submissions that try to stay true to the classic feel to get the design somehow within the game. It's just one of those I gotta have it impulses ya know.

yes and that's pure human nature like counting the sleeps till christmas. it's natural :( :D

my worries are that if these mechs make it into the game, the HSR can be fixed the CW can be built the scaling and hitboxes can be redone even the timeline can shift, but we only have ONE chance at the concept art, if it isn't right the first time {FD's pretty safe hands} it will never be right.

that's why the marauder is a unique oppotunity to offer something unique within the game, i've seen here and there people saying too many humanoids and they all look alike. that's why i worry about the ressen artwork, it's leading towards an altered catapult. it leads to staying inside the square and making a simillar problem, all the chicken walkers look alike.

of the MWO art my favorite is the cicada and my least is the orion. the cicada is unique, there's nothing like it in the game, the orion is the personification of lazy, a duplo block torso and why the triangle cockpit? now a marauder that stayed faithful to the proportions and posture of the original offeres the game something that isn't yet another stalker catapult cataphract mech. it's what the game needs and i'm prepaired to work and wait for that treasure rather than rush santa and add to my coal collection.

why else is this my first art comp? i can draw a bit, could've always participated in stuff but other than time constraints i'd be doing art for the fun of it. because this however is an oppotunity of a lifetime, to evolve a long lost design into something spectacularly fresh, inovative and most important, a unique expereince. the reseen doesn't offer that it's too generic, we need a completly new way of thinking for a redesign. i'm hoping to offer people that experience. it's worth waiting for.
