This is not a crying about 3rd person view thread... I'm being serious.

I understand the devs intended for 3rd person view to help new players understand how the mech moves... but I think more effort could be put into the tutorials to prepare new players.

I am watching new players run out of bounds and kill themselves, or have no idea where to go in Conquest game modes because they don't have access to the map. My last PUG match I just chased a newbie jenner out of bounds and he died.

Not having a map is a huge detriment to a new player.

3PV Was a move by IGP to attempt an increase of new players and failed miserably.

Hence why it's garbage, not in wide use, and really a shoddy afterthought.

I do notice a number of new players that go back to 3PV even after they learn about 1PV because they're adamant that movement is too confusing otherwise.

The same people think that the turning controls are some of the most complex ever made.

I just got out of another match where there was an entire lance of trial mechs... 2 of them died at the very beginning of the match by running out of bounds.

How do I end up on these teams?

Did you ever once think to type. Press F4 to go 1PV? You get those because that is your ELO bracket obviously. ;)

3PV should be a fully functional, valid way to play (complete with moving arms, a decent view, and a map) with either a separate queue or limited availability in ranked matches. As it stands, they've hilariously nerfed it in an unsuccessful effort to make it "balanced."

It's not balanced. It's just bad - bad at everything except for the one thing it was supposed to be bad at: peeking around things.

In my mind, it was a total waste of time, effort, and good will. Creating separate queues would be bad due to an already tiny playerbase, but they way they implemented it really couldn't have been much worse.

Not really the point though. While it would be nice if all the vets shared your altruism, it shouldn't be up to the players to explain basic features of the game to new players. That should be PGI's job, oh wait it IS PGI's job.....

oh you did, never mind.

I know, right? 3PV is proven to be exactly like some of us predicted - useful for experienced players, useless for new players - and some people are still defending it. ;)

Every time I see a newbie with a 3PV drone out I follow them around the map telling them to press F4 and then to turn off arm lock. If they don't pay attention I shoot near them until they notice me. I also inform them to stick with their team instead of going fully Rambo 30 seconds into a game.

My success rate is about 70%

We didn't want 3PV, so their solution was to make 3PV absolutely horrible so they can say "look, nobody is using it anyway!"

Then they made it default and stuck newbies into the game with no map. Genius.

Armlock is almost as crippling, too. Yesterday, ac40 jager couldn't finish off a victor because it couldn't aim low enough with the torso. Genius.

Why the *censored* is it a good idea to cripple new players in the name of making it "easier" for them? Result of that policy is frustration. If they spectate they might not even know why their arm reticule doesn't move like a vet's does.......

But hey, I suppose when you don't provide a complete set of tutorials you do what you think you gotta do...

Yeah... I use 3pv at the beginning of every match (I wanna see my mech man!)

I'm pretty sure I've freaked out people like you who think that I'm going to use it for actual combat

It's pretty easy to tell newbies from the people who just like looking at their awesome mechs. (C)hampion mechs are a dead giveaway
