It's been doing this for a long time (probably since the start).
The devs should be aware of it, as it was brought up several times already. There has never been any comment on it being fixed, so it might be "working as intended" for all we know.

An excellent example is to do this - go to Crimson Straight. Put a mech with AMS inside the tunnel. There are clearly NO "skylights" or other holes there. Then take an LRM carrying mech and stand on top of the platform. Fire the LRMs and you will see the AMS shoot down the missiles from inside the tunnel.
The first time I saw this was when I realized that this game is far, far from being out of alpha testing, let alone "released"

Like I said, its everywhere. Mine was just an example. On Manifold youll see the same thing if you have the AMS guy behind the giant wall at each of the 4 entrances to the main satellite area.
As for timeline, its "on the list", though I note that many things have been there for 2 years or more.....

So... sadly this is working as intended.

Upcoming patch (soon), future patch (a little further down the road), planed but uncertain when, probalby not being included, not being included. Etc.

LOL, poor naiive Serpentbane. Three issues here:
1. Providing that list would be an admission of how many things are still wrong with the game 2 years in. Seeing this list might cause people to not buy MC, which is the #1 thing to be avoided. Especially compared to those pesky little island people who already paid.
2. Having a status level for each item might imply some accountability and transparency. You could see just how old each "known issue" is and possibly even track how long it has been broken. No way that would happen.
3. Even if there was a list with dates, we have seen consistently that there is no ability to honor promises for actually fixing or implementing things. Its much easier to just tell you that "youre on an island" and no one else has this problem. Come on, what is wrong with you?!

wait...what ? Do you mean the AMS on highlanders FIRES from somewhere near the hips or do you mean the actual AMS is attached to the hips ? Can you provide a screenshot or video of this ? Oo

For this to be fixed, there would have to be a near complete reworking of AMS from the ground up. Something you should not expect to see before late 2015 because there are too many more important things going on.

You see that tin can sitting on the back of her left hip? That little sucker is for shooting missiles out of the sky. I kid you not.

Jackpot. The reason here is transmission efficiency. It's very quick and easy to check if a missile is a certain distance from a mech. It's much harder to let the mech shoot a projectile, transmit the position data of that projectile, validate it server-side and return a confirmation that the projectile is valid after which you interpolate the server and client position of that projectile.

Uh ...sorry mate but those are just some techy-bits of the leg.
The ACTUAL AMS sits on the shoulder as you can see here:

Having mastered 3 HGNs I'm quite sure of it.

Ah well, I guess I got it wrong. I just remember spotting that and having a laugh with some buddies when the Highlander was announced. BTW I mastered 3 HGN's too, just never bothered putting an AMS on one
