So I've been running BAP on my DDC forever for a variety of reasons, but now that the Command Console is going to be a thing, I'm debating adding one in and seeing how it performs. Additionally, I'm really curious how they'll work together.

Here's what they do:

BAP:
+25% Sensor Range
-25% Target Info time
Detect unpowered mechs, counter ECM (when not on an ECM mech)

Command Console:
+5.25% Zoom
+6% Sensor Range
-20.5% Target Info time

My reading of this is that it's probably an either/or thing, but combined leads to some interesting possibilities:

+31% Sensor Range
-45.5% Target Info time
+5.25% Zoom
Detect unpowered mechs, etc.

I'm not sure how useful it is to get Target Info that quickly (with BAP, it comes up pretty quick as is) and Sensor Range is useful, but at a certain point, being able to lock someone up at 2,000m is neat, but largely pointless.

So is this an either/or thing, or would it actually be useful to load in both (at the cost of 4.5 tons and three slots of space)? Thoughts?

The command console is as useful as a dried dog t.urd :) . Noone will sacrifice the tonnage for the menial bonus it grants. Frankly it is a joke. How many mechs can equip it? I know a DDC can but mine will never ever sacrifice 3 tons to use the worthless thing.

I dont think the percentages work that way in MWO but I could be wrong. Lets say if took 3 seconds to target. Bap would decrease it to 2.25 and then console would reduce that to 1.79. If it was a straight 45.5, it would be 1.635 seconds.

Bottom line is that the thing weighs 3 tons....... omfg... lol.. Christ! We have computers now that weigh about as much as a toaster that can do more than the 3 ton waste of space they are giving us..lol

Theoretically, at least as far as BT rules go, any Heavy or Assault can mount a Command Console. In essence, it's a second cockpit placed in the head. It gives HUGE advantages on Tabletop, such as satellite uplink and other goodies. Here....not so much.

Ton for Ton this is how the Command Console sizes up to the Clan MK III Targeting computer. here are the specs-

Targeting Computer Mk III

Weight: 3 tons.

Slots: 3 slots.

Zoom distance: [+4.25]%

Sensor range: [+4.25]%

Time to gather target info: [-42.5]%

Projectile weapon projectile speed: [+8.5]%

Beam weapon long ranges: [+8.5]%

Beam weapon max ranges: [+8.5]%

Increased crit chance for projectile and beam weapons: [+18.5]%

Command Console

Weight: 3 tons.

Slots: 1 slot.

Zoom distance: [+5.25]%

Sensor range: [+6.0]%

Time to gather target info: [-20.5]%

As you can see the command console has the MK III targeting computer beat in sensor range, slot consumtion and zoom distance and the command console is on par with MK IV on zoom distance and a MK V on sensor range. However the MK III is still superior due to target gather time, weapon buffs, and crit chance%.

Yeah, I'm kind of hoping for some weapon buff, ala the clan targeting computer eventually. Right now, I just don't see the advantage over the BAP, which is just as good, weighs half as much, and has counter-ECM as a buff. At three tons, the Command Console just doesn't seem worth it.

I vaguely see it being useful combined with a BAP, but not enough to justify the 3 tons. Maybe if it gave another Module Slot? Dunno. I would love to use it (never threw away the one that came with my DDC, although I pulled it ages ago), but I'm really stretching to find a use.

imho, targeting computers should buff weapons, while the comandconsoles should help "recon" devices, like buffing Tags, Narcs, Baps, ECM (+range +effect). Additional module slot(s) maybe. Or give it a slightly weaker but permanent UAV effect (e.g. 80m radius).

Nice. Like it.

Not sure how you'd buff a TAG. Extend it's range or make it a cone, maybe?

Curious to see the final values tomorrow in the patch but it appears DOA. I am not sure they can make it worth the tonnage without some substantial additional benefits.

There is no way to make it worth the tonnage IMHO. The BAP is a way more practical device. Maybe if they let any mech equip it some players may use it if they are an LRM heavy build. I really doubt it will be used much at all.

Right, as you've said a couple times. I tend to agree, and by equipping it (via Smurfy, at least), I'd have to ditch a ton of ammo and two heat sinks. It might be worth it, but not, as you point out, for three tons.

don't forget to take in to count modules:

Sensor Range
Target Info Gathering

in to your Mix.

just wondering if there are stack bonuses for ECM, Command Console, and how that would work out.

Not according to the official release, but that doesn't mean it won't change later. Currently, the only benefits are the ones described in the OP.

I think the Command Console's benefits are not that useful for the 3 tons it weighs.

However, I also agree with people who have suggested the idea that the Command Console would be more interesting if it gave modest sensor and targeting bonuses to the whole team, not just itself.

That being said it would need two other things as well. An indicator on the HUD that you are getting bonuses from a Command Console mech on your team (this is more for the psychological effect, as people can't appreciate the benefits if they don't know about them), and the bonuses probably should NOT stack with other Command Consoles on the team. You either have it or you don't.

It would be better to make conclusive statements after they are released. Makes you look bad when it is the other way around. I plan to put Command consoles most of my IS mechs especially my hunchbacks.

I like the idea of it being of benefit to the whole team or even a lance. That would definitely be a step in the right direction to making it worth 3 tons.

As for stacking, I think it should to some extent but maybe at a diminished rate for each on the team.

They should also make the Command Console have increased crit chance for SRMs, MGs, and LBXs (Buck shot mode only), with a bubble around the mech that is using it so it can buff near by allies in a 150m Radius.
That would make them rather balanced between the two.
