Why Do People Not Lock Targets?

People never lock targets. I've specced people going head to head with another mech and never locking them up. This happens all the time.
You're denying yourself help from friendly missiles, and more importantly, denying yourself valuable information.
I've seen a guy in a phract, going up against a KFX or something, as the only two mechs left. He didnt even bother to lock the other mech up.
So he doesnt know which parts are most damaged, is he set up for close quarters or ranged combat etc.
I just dont understand it.

Why?
Because we're putting ourselves at risk every second our faces are exposed to the enemy. Do you really think we're going to risk that for you to maybe shoot and miss? No we're shooting, juking, and trying to make mince meat out of the enemy while avoiding or spreading the damage around ourselves.

Yeah, i don't see my target's health but then i rarely try to kill people, just damage them as much as i can before i have to get away.
Friendly indirect-fire missiles do not need their targets locked by friendlies (only the firing unit), they need a friend with line of sight to the enemies.

Well, then don't complain when the amount of help you get is minimized.

I really think the LRM ranges should be reduced to 660 meters like they're in the board game, this would put them in range of other long range weapons...

Why do people peek again and again on the same spot where they've been receiving fire?
Why do people fire lurms that are not hitting anyone?
Why do people walk in front of a firing Dire Whale that's your teammate?
Why do people cramp single file and not allow to back up?
No one knows, we just deal with it and hope that the world will improve with all our forum posts, guides, and occasional rage thread

This is so stupid.
I run a HBK-4SP most of the time, no LRMs on it. Guess what? I can't help you if I don't know that you're engaged with someone, and unless I happen to be standing right next to you, I won't know you're engaged if you don't bother targetting the enemy you're fighting with.
Target the enemy, let me see where you've hurt him, and I'll run over there and do my best to put my shots into the same place you've already hit him.
Or, don't target him. Watch as he targets *you*, and all of *his* buddies come streaming in to pound your face in.

They just shoot willy nilly, never focusing on a particular hitbox. It makes me sad, and lose the game.

So that's how all those SRMs come out!

The first and foremost thing on any pug's mind is "don't be the weakest link", which the score board does a marvelous job in shaming such players with low damage. Hence, they spam, and blame all the kill stealers on LRMs.

MWO doesn't really punish players for being noobs. The mechs are fragile so tactics never develop into anything serious. It's perhaps counter-intuitive that stronger mechs and more realistic weapons make for real tactical consequences, but they do.
