The premise of this thread is to post up tips in the most simple, clear cut way. No waffle, no complexity, straight up tips.

Note: If someone gives bad advice you can waffle to correct the fact (i.e. making a correcting statement) but keep it on topic. :)

Ideally I would love to compile a tonne of the best snippets into some kind of mini guide...

First up:

Be observant of enemy UAV's in the sky as they will betray your location; shoot them down asap.

When your teammate steps out of cover in front of you to take a peak/lead a charge, don't immediately take their spot, and leave them stuck out in the open.

Ooh, sounds like a fun idea. Or maybe I'm just tired. Either way...

If you spend the whole match afraid of dying, you've already lost.

Minimise exposure of the rear of your mech & when in the open use torso twist to avoid being cored in the rear.

Use the range-finder indicator to tell if your shot is going to hit the UAV or open sky

If charging forward alone, plan out your escape route ahead of time in case your teammates refuse to follow.

You can fire LRMs without a target lock. They'll land on your targeting reticle, just like an Arty Strike. It's a good tactic to cause some panic when enemy mechs are standing still under an ECM umbrella.

And for map-specific tips: Therma - get in or stay out; don't stand in the entrances to the center.

Speed is life when in a light mech. Always max out leg armor.

Only when using Artemis, according to the gamepedia.

Remember you're in the match to shoot things - not to get shot or watch teammates get shot.

This is wrong! I rarely use Artemis (wasted tonnage in my eyes) and it still works. Can be tested on the testing ground, if someone doesn't believe me.

Look out for and stay with your teammates. If the fall behind, reduce your speed, or circle around, so they can catch up.

  • Leave space behind your mech for friendlies to move otherwise don't act surprised that everyone walks in front of you.
  • Side by side, only ducklings march in single file, you are not a duckling
  • The weapons in the HUD weapon groupings will light up corresponding to damage the weapon will do at that range Green = max damage, Yellow = partial damage, Black = No Damage

This is called dumb firing LRMs, and it works with or without artemis. The other advantage is that the enemy does not get the incoming missle warning since there is no computer lock. The disadvantage is if they move, you hit ground, there is not tracking like when you have a lock.

It's been said but gonna say it again. Lock your target.

LOCK your target.

LOCK YOUR EFFING TARGET!!

And learn the ranges of your weapons. There's a range for max damage. A range for reduced or fall off damage. And some weapons have a min range.

(pssst. its lrms and ppcs that have min range)

Artemis adds no slots or weight to streak srms but decreases time to lock.

An overheated mech in the open is a dead mech. Heed your heat warnings.

Pay attention to the minimap.

Press Q to see ally mech's health and status.

Pay attention to allies with a 'low signal' status who may be under attack by an enemy with ECM that you cannot see or detect.

Heat efficiency is more important than more weapons.

Endosteel internal structure is always better than Ferro Fibrous armor - only take FF armor if you already have endosteel and have an additional 14 critical slots to spare.

I have more.

If you have jumpjets equipped, use it. It's not a placeholder, nor something you use only when you're bored.

It's sometimes easy to forget in the thick of combat, but did you know it's harder to hit a jumping target accurately, even if it's slowly moving around?

If you see yellow coloured LRMS rush the firing mech if it is alone. LRMS do damage only between 180m-1000m.

If you see blue coloured LRMS close in below 180m if possible, clan LRMS do less damage when you get closer.

Double heat sinks built into the engine do 2.0 cooling, while all external dhs, even the additional ones you add into the engine do 1.4 cooling

While damage and kills are useful they are not the only possible contribution,

if you are in a fast Mech always lock targets and do not be afraid to:
scout,
distract,
harrass,
try to get slower Mechs to chase you,
take risks to place a UAV if your team has a lot of LRMs
