Which part of the latest Town Hall meeting made you most excited? You can find the cliff notes here, if you didn't listen to it.

For me, this was definitely the most exciting news:
  • Mech collisions and knockdowns are a "top priority" after CW is released, hopefully Dec 15th. This will be a big game changer. Not without major bugs and lots of tears, I'm sure. But it will push the game in the right direction. Towards more realism and less arcade-style.
  • New maps may be released as often as every month after CW is released. I doubt that will actually happen, but it would be crazy cool. Small maps may also be taken out of rotation, so I think the quality of the maps we're going to play on will increase dramatically in 2015. Bigger, better and more numerous.
  • A lot of work is being put into making MWO more friendly to new players, such as letting new players fight 4 vs 4 matches on small maps and improving UI. This doesn't affect me directly, but it means that we'll hopefully get a lot of new players when this game hits Steam. And they won't quit out of frustration. Which means the number of players may stay the same, or even grow a little. Which means the game will stay alive longer.

yes hopefully those rekcless 140kph lights will hit their nose on the ground when they rush into buildings and mechs.

And Steam release, YAY. Hopeflly they get some steam stuff working like trading carts and background profile pics and such.

yea! more reasons for folks not to use lights.

now that small pebble that makes you fly into the sky and take leg damage will now make you fall over also along with the million other poorly made map objects.

when they re-add knockdown, I will never use my lights again cause I'm sure the other mechs won't be falling over.

either that or leave knock down to CW only.

Also, Russ slipped up a bit in saying that there would be 3 invasion maps at launch when only 2 have ever been mentioned before: "Invasion" and "Frost." So they have more surprises under their collective hats.

maybe they make alpne into one? I mean alpine is quite big and the colony in the northeast would be a proper fitting location for the base to be hidden.

I know it's almost becoming cliché, but in the case of MWO I think it is pretty damn clear that the general horror of the last year or so can be squarely placed on the shoulders of an overbearing and misguided publisher exerting control over a developer preventing them from doing what they wanted to do.

Not really. For two reasons:
A) I've been playing this game for 2 years. Most of the time in the mechlab is already behind me. I have 40 mechs with upgrades, weapons and engines, ready to drop at the click of a button. I don't plan on changing their builds. I don't plan on buying new mechs, except if they introduce a Sumerset package with the Mauler, Axman, Bushwacker and Wolfhound. In short, I probably won't be making much time in the mechbay in the future anyway. My mechs are set up and ready to go.

B] They said UI 2.0 would be great, it was horrible. UI 2.5. will apparently be great, but at best it's probably going to be a copy of smurfy. Nothing to get really excited about. If they had said we'd get to walk inside our hangar like in Star Citizen, I would be excited. Smurfy? I've seen that **** before.

Meh, I don't buy into that spiel. "Oh, Alex Iglesias has drawn a King Crab on a napkin. If you all like my post and hit me up on Twitter, maaaaybe I'll give you a peek."

No thanks, I'm an adult. If you want to show me, show me. If not, that's fine.

I threw it on the ground.

That's a legitimate concern, and I'm sure there will be a lot of bugs. But I can't stand the lack of realism when mechs run into each other at 150 kph and it only does 0.1 dmg to their left foot before they teleport through each other.

Even MW2 was more realistic than that.

Definitely the collisions are standing out for me. One of my biggest frustrations of MW:O is how 'Mechs do not have weight to them, and piloting them can be fairly lazy in that there's really no penalties for crashing into a wall or another 'Mech. If you crash into a wall, you should regret it. Currently anything but jumping of the mountains on Alpine can cause any significant regret.

I hope you're right, but since the shrugging off of said publisher, there has been a lot of talk and a lot of tourney and some free stuff for the kids, but not much of substance. At this point, we are all still running on sunshine... Here's hoping that December brings Big Things Soon...

Normally I would be skeptical about the map per month thing, but they did put in Mining Collective less than two months behind the next patch, which has swamp in it, sooo..

I imagine it'll take some time, but melee combat should certainly be a lot easier to do when they've sorted out collisions and knockdown. Mechs will move more predictably in close quarters, instead of warping and teleporting all over the place.

I think he also mention "Bad Lands" which is based on canyon, and a fourth one unnamed map based on caustic.

Yeah, i can't wait to see guys with a 250 ping going 150 kph crashing into each other, warping so hard that they teleport through whole buildings on frozen city until the netcode puts them back in their place.
Could almost taste the realism back in the days when knockdowns were in the game.

My trust in PGI implementing knockdowns without breaking the whole game (again) is somewhat limited.
