There may not be an option for GPUs to run arbitrary portions of DX12. It may have nothing to do with vendors at all.

Keep in mind that DirectX is a standard, and when you enable it in a game, you are instructing the game to throw instructions at your GPU that are going to have to be supported. It's not a menu where you get to pick and choose what parts you are and aren't going to run, so either your GPU supports it, or it doesn't.

This is (at least supposedly) the entire reason we had the DX10 vs 10.1 debacle. Nvidia cards couldn't support DX10.1, ie DX10 will full features which came out just months after Vista/DX10, something that persisted for a long, long time,so they had to be written as entirely different standards so that you could selectively run one or the other in games. If things worked as you suggested, Carsten, all GPUs would have just been able to enable DX10.1, which would then just be named "10", and just support the features they could support, but it doesn't work like that.

Microsoft writes the standards for what DX12 is and isn't, not AMD or Nvidia. If they want to write iterations of that standard that include support for things as old as, say, Evergreen, that's up to them, not AMD or Nvidia.

It has already been announced by AMD, Intel and Nvidia, that there will be drivers taking advantage of multithreaded dispatch for "older" generations of cards.

So MS is allowing some exploitation of a partial set of DX12 features. That doesn't mean AMD and Nvidia can arbitrarily set where that list begins and ends, and so, doesn't mean that any DX11 GPU is going to meet the requirements to run any given set of features.

It's still going to be a standard, and a GPU is still going to have to meet all of the requirements specified therein. There's no reason to assume AMD and Nvidia are intentionally leaving GPUs out.

Having worked at NVIDIA and now working at Microsoft, I can safely say without revealing any secrets that Microsoft works with NVIDIA, AMD, and even Intel to define each generation of DirectX.

It's true and there's a mechanism by which applications can ask the GPU what it does and does not support and then do the right thing.

Oh and that's all rather public knowledge.

Now, who knows what the specific requirements are for DX12. I certainly don't, and I'm not arguing anything to that effect, nor that any GPU should or shouldn't be able to support DX12's features or any given subset. I'm merely saying that it's poor logic to blindly assume that AMD or Nvidia are excluding GPUs from DX12 support just because "they don't feel like it". There might be legitimate reasons why something like a 5770 might not support DX12, even a watered down version of it.

Just fired Windows 10 TP 9926 back up for the first time in a while, after the patch today and the hot fix this is one match in the bog.

All my settings are at high-very high, I turned off AA, Heard it doesn't really make much difference with 1920x1200. Everything seems a bit smoother now. I have played one or two rounds on Windows 7, same settings in CW, and have benches from those games too. Looking interesting for sure, and I am hoping PGI keeps improving because I just pulled the trigger on that 32" 1440p BenQ monitor for $600 on sale from the egg. Should be here in a few days :-)

I have also waited on getting the new I7 4790K parts, and really had a hard time not getting them and a new R290X 4 gb XFX DD series card. I found it on sale for only $329 free shipping. I am trying to hold off on the other parts and the card right now and see what my 7970 3gb can do with the new fixes from PGI, and the new monitor coming. Should be interesting.

Under DirectX 11 the bulk of Star Swarm’s batch submission work happens under a single thread, and as a result the benchmark is effectively bottlenecked by single-threaded performance, unable to scale out with multiple CPU cores. This is one of the issues DirectX 12 sets out to resolve, with the low-level API allowing Oxide to more directly control how work is submitted, and as such better balance it over multiple CPU cores.

hmm
single thread performance

maybe it'll even help without too much optimization for AMD CPU users

mmm

Well first you might want to check by hand that it's "properly" deinstalled
Like not in the list of programs any more
Posted Image

You might want to install ccleaner Posted Image
Which cleans the registry of entry's that point to nowhere (well one of many things it does)

Can you get into the launcher and run the repair tool?

Edit:
So I understand it correctly
It doesn't actually install any more at all?
Or is it trying to install but running out of space still?
Which in that case you might want to change the temp folder from the launcher
