I Enjoy Playing The Game As Is.

I am not talking about the BS twelve mech light rush, but how it played before turrets, cap timer nerf and C-bill nerf.
The areas contested on Alpine and Terra Therma were much more expansive in the past.

I've been here since before the first stat wipe in closed beta. Still annoyed I missed out on founders. I agree with the OP. Every patch the game gets better. While I may not agree with every decision that gets made, I realise that PGI aren't making this game to suit me. It is THIS critical point that perhaps some of the PGI haters need to learn.

I actually agree with this part. I think PGI could have made things much easier on themselves if they'd released with the 4th Succession War, IS only, 3025 tech. Much simpler to balance and refine. But anyway...

There's a long ways to go, but the devs are doing what they can.

With that said. If you don't enjoy the game as is. You're gonna have a bad time. If you want to catch em all with the mechs. Then spend some money and work through the grind. If you're trying to be competitive. Then swallow your pride and play the meta, until it inevitably shifts.
But if you're looking for persistent universe. CW map is all we have for you. If you're expecting some rich story. Grab a lucky trinket and hope for PvE content. Or go read one of the books.
I think the biggest butthurt is from people who expected the game to be more than it is. They have a nostalgic vision for what the game should be that could never really be reached.

I agree with most of your post, but this irked me in a way that demanded expression.
This is not a case of 'what could have been.'
It is a case of 'What was, and then what was, was taken away.'

OP has been around 2 months less than you. Should have checked the forum profiles before making such a bold statement.
Sorry I'm not a forum warrior.
I like the current MWO because it's playable, has more than 3 maps, better FPS (for me at least) better maps that are not resource killers (and the old maps are slowly getting fixed) more mechs, CW finally dropped More maps in CW, limited if any challenges and tournoments. In fact 2 years ago I don't think they existed at all.
Oh yea, 2+ years ago, UI 1.0. Repair and Rearm was ********! "We're going to charge you RR, but if you can't afford it, we'll do 75% for free" so people would just stack extra ammo.... should have been all or nothing.
2+ years ago was like some resikinned limited content demo MW4. MWO now is a game I play every day and have fun BS'ing with buddies and having a grand old time.

In a thread about enjoying the game, and looking for the silver lining in it, I think you coming in here and standing in the rain instead drives home what I'm aptempting to express. If there are all these grievances you have, why still play? Why burn up time posting so much? What have you gained from it?

It's important to be vocal otherwise PGI might think we have forgotten about all the old features that were removed and never fixed.
Also, PGI owns the rights (for now) so I have no other choice.

Sure, there are days when things go wrong, but this is how life works, for those who are less experienced.

as you can see i am a LF. If you think this MW:O is decent, then all i can say is that you are missing out on what the original beta etc dream was and its potential. Just to say that, this incarnation, is about 40% of what MW:O Beta promised. Yes 40%..

Do I regret supporting it by purchasing every top pack, every hero, for the most part, no I don't.
What does frustrate and disappoint me, is that PGI have continued since day one to promise the earth and you get an expanded windowbox, and the time to provide this window box, has taken roughly the same amount of time as it took to land a man on the moon from Kennedy's speech.

Like R&R, the old ammo explosion animation, the damage animation, convergence? Or something else?

Many people complain because they are passionate about the game and want to see changes that they believe will help the game.

I respectfully disagree with all of your opinions, except about the maps - I agree they've been getting better.
The map problem isn't that the latest maps aren't better, the map problem is the old maps with all the flaws haven't been fixed and/or removed.
Though, to PGI's credit, they have fixed a larger amount of the 'invisible wall' and getting stuck issues than ever before.

Since this applies to me as well, allow me to reply:
I post and voice my complaints because I would like to enjoy playing MW:O. It's as enjoyable as it is, it could be *SO* much better, balanced, fair, competitive - and thus fun - than it is now.
It makes no sense to me that the best way to enjoy a game is to not play the game at all. So I play, I complain, I enjoy what I can and I make noise about what I can't enjoy.
It's still fun and cool to run around shooting things in a stompy 'Mech. It's because that is fun that I get so irritated at the parts of the game that serve to ruin that fun - and thus, I so vehemently call out for such gimmicks to be altered or removed to allow for fun to be had again.

I've been playing the game since the origional beta. I know what the dream was. I also know how it was restricted by the publisher, and as soon as that yoke was thrown off, PGI hustled to start delivering.

Every time I read these complaints, I find no sympathy.
I like the game, and where it's heading from where it's been, and where it's going. It's been rocky, and I like many people that have been playing a long time have taken breaks, and have returned sometimes to things being better, sometimes worse.
"Lrmageddon is OP" "Dark maps are too dark" "convergance needs nerf" "Pay to win PGI PLZ NERF" "The Community warfare beta isn't a finished product" "it's not table top it's not right" "It's table top and doesn't work realtime" and all the variations of the themes.
So I figured, instead of the typical "woe is me" thread I would post the opposite.
What does everyone think works well?
I like how ECM works in a more realistic way, by actually inhibiting targeting in a set range (darn inverse square law).
I enjoy the LRMS while many of you have mearly adapted to them, I was BORN in it. I of course agree that they could be changed to balance better, but what a lot of people don't realize is many of the ways they want them balanced might make them more effective.
I enjoy the quirks. Coming from the TT/ lore side, while many people choose to look at the quirks as advertised, I choose to look at them as representative of the fact that all the mechs and all the weapons were made by differnt people, and factories and are of differnt design.
Why should all the weapons classes be the same? I'd love to see eventually a break from tradition, and have differant weapons effects and weights for the class. I.E. a high velocity AP AC 5 from one company, or a low velocity HE AC five from another. But that's jsut a whim. I think it would be more intersting than quirks.
I enjoy how the skill tree's liven up mechs. Some mechs that "suck" according to meta try-hard opinion, are FUN to play once maxed out.
New maps... they are getting better, and unlike EA... they magically wind up being playable without having to pay anyone!!!
CW has bugs. CW is in Beta. I play CW and get frustrated because there is no nerf padding on the match maker to make me feel like I'm a better player than I am. Sometimes I find out the hard way that some people area LOT better at this game both induvidually, and in organization and leadership.
VOIP.... Man... while frustrating that most of the time people only get on voip at the END of the match to talk about what SHOULD have been done, when people get proactive and plan, call targets, and focus fire... it's a beautiful thing.
Most of all, I enjoy playing Mechwarrior, online for the first time since way back in the day with Mech Warrior 4.
Because really for all the frustrations if at it's core this game wasn't fun, we all wouldn't be paying it, right?
Here, here, sir. See my sig. I agree wholeheartedly.
