As seen in the Weekend Update, the Cauldron Born looks to have pretty hefty love handles and is anything but "short and squat" like the mech is known for. I'm a bit concerned that we may end up with another Nova in terms of size/shape.

Well the only positive on that note is that it will = "DOA" and not be as OP as some people would have thought. less people using it. and TBR can remain king of the spotlight.

Um, looked good to me.

High hard points, including the arms (fully mobile arms, but without low mounted guns?!), ears for even higher mounted weapons, but will probably not be present if you leave the hard points empty.

Oh noes, the torso is a bit wide. Meh, I might care more if it didn't get a clan XL that lets you lose a ST without any real penalty. That wide torso probably means it'll actually be harder to blow the CT out, since twisting will shield it with ST.

The arms need to be straightened out (think MW4 CB), rather than angled down like they are now, it kinda looks silly imo. Other than that I am happy with it.

The MW4 Cauldron Born wasn't that squat either, just wanted to point that out and it looked fine for the most part.

For comparison:

Doesnt look too bad. Arm weapons are about waist height(Nova is below waist) and look like they can shield. Torso 'guns' dont look too big and may be able to ridgehump.

Dunno. I got the Cheeter. All i need.

It doesn't look as good as the concept art, heres my proposed change:

Ideallly i think it would look better if they increased the size of the fuselage but i think the above edit would really easy to whip up in their 3d editing software

I like Tennex's change. All in all I think it's bigger than I expected, wider too.

It's all fine, even with the proportions and whatnot.

The only issue is the pose. If the legs aren't bent more then it'll be too tall.

looking at this pic i see why it was dubbed 'zombie' ('cauldron born' it's some kind of zombie in some irish or something folklore)

but i definitely don't see why it was named 'ebon jaguar', it's supposed to be a totem mech, if it looks as a jaguar it's a jaguar with a toothache bandage... or somebody hit the right side of the poor kitty's head with a hammer

Too tall? In what sense? A little extra height isn't inherently bad.

I think it looks better, but:

1) I wouldn't want the fuselage longer. Length of torso is bad, it just needlessly extends your side torsos and makes you a bigger target from the side. See: Why Dragon's suffer. Just moving it forward as per the example above would be fine though.

2) Moving it forward may cause issues with the cockpit being too far forward from the pivot point? I dunno if that's a problem or not, but may be.

The arms aren't high enough. But I still dropped the $90 for it.

Honestly I hate the concept art. Didn't look a10 ugly enough to be a cauldron born. That and I hate the slimmed down direwolf legs if and the shadow cat got

To me it just looks a bit uninspired. I'm not sure if we're so used to the MWO style of designing mechs that all new mechs just look bland to us. Maybe I would have been blown away by this design in 2013, and now it just looks ordinary. But I can't help but feel that it just looks a very minor polish of the original design, whereas other mechs have had considerable changes.

I think PGI used to make a lot bolder choices when it came to redesigning the mechs. Consider the Raven, for example

Spoiler

I don't think they did a bad job per se, it's just very... okay. The cockpit especially looks extremely simplistic. Which would be fine if the original design had a unique characteristic that you wanted to replicate, like the ugly, yet characteristic Hunchback cockpit. But the Cauldron Born's nose design isn't really that interesting, so I think they could have done something more with it.

I'm not complaining though. I didn't buy it.

Awesome rendition of an ugly mech. I love it.
