Total Clan Players: 7312
consider that the so long queue times (for solo players) with that ratio is to blame on pgi

That places a lower bound on player population of 17k players.
Regular, non-Tukayyid CW is played by roughly 10% of the population, which puts an upper bound on the player population of 170k players.
Then again, there were probably more people playing Tukayyid than would play non-Tukayyid CW, so a conservative guesstimation would be that the population is in the vicinity of 100k players.
Which is a rather sad number seeing as there were over 60k founders three years ago.

17226 total players, a much better stat
I would be more worried about the 10k IS and 7k clan split, tbh.

Pretty bad actually. The time I logged off from MWO and this event and started playing another game, I opened my War Thunder client and they had 85,000 plus players concurrently logged on at that time. And that game is only a fraction compared to even bigger online games out there.

And it's the concurrent player number that's actually useful, which is why they'll never tell us what it is.

Going off that list *IF*everyone who did the event did so for one day on an even distribution (they didn't) it would have been more popular than Grand Theft Auto IV, Company of Heroes (New Steam Version), Call of Duty: World at War, Far Cry® 3, Star Wars - Battlefront II, LEGO MARVEL Super Heroes and others.
However these numbers are incorrect, as all those games have the massive advantage of Being On Steam. This means they reach a much wider audience/are promoted by dint of being on Steam. So if MWO was on there it would get a boost, pushing it further up the rankings. Making it even more in the top 100.
So, yeah, not that bad at all.

Not directly, but one can guesstimate from e.g. this tweet that Russ proudly re-tweeted: "63 matches ongoing, plus 55x12 in Defend queue, 14x12 in Attack queue"
63 * 24 = 1512 players in matches
69 * 12 = 828 players waiting
1512 + 828 = 2340 concurrent players.
Which is rather sad during a major event, when we know that the concurrent player counter in closed beta topped out at over 4,000 concurrent players. It wasn't until it dropped below 2k and rarely went over it that they pulled that counter.

In regards to PGI spending money on CW for a small percentage of the population, I'm guessing their idea is that if they just stop now, then CW has been a massive failure and lots of money have been wasted. If they spend some more money developing CW, they can turn it into a success. In their mind.
CW also seems to be the only way PGI feels they can do 4 v 4 and PVE without splitting up the player population too much. Because you can't really have 5 completely different queues (pub single, pub group, CW 12v12, 4v4 and PVE queue) with so few players online. And then there's Solaris on top of that.
Notice how few people played Resistance mechs in CW, by the way. Zeus, Grasshopper, Enforcer, Panther. Relatively few people playing those mechs. Makes me wonder how many people are buying Resistance 2.

Both are the Mechs I got my only kills with. The Panther had 3 of the 4.
Hard to get good shots off with 12FpS.
