Since no where else seems to be helpful....

I had trouble installing the game, finally got it to install the launcher. And the launcher doesnt launch.

Tried the MWOupdate folder trick. Didnt work. I click the shortcut, or the file itself in Bin32, and it doesnt run. Nor does the patcher or repair too. The bootstrap runs a cmd window then closes itself.

Any ideas? I have up to date drivers, c++, you name it.

It says theres no 4.0 frame work or c++, but 4.0 is out of date and no one with Windows 7 can install it over 4.5. It will always fail with there being a newer version. Then 2010 says its not there but heres the list of installed C++:

MVC++ 2005 8.0.507
MVC++ 2005 8.0.591
MVC++ 2005 8.0.610
MVC++ 2005 8.0.9191
MVC++ 2005 8.0.61001
MVC++ 2008 xxx
MVC++ 2008 xxx
MVC++ 2008 xxx
MVC++ 2008 xxx
MVC++ 2008 xxx
MVC++ 2010 x86 10.0.40
MVC++ 2012 xx
MVC++ 2012 xx
MVC++ 2012 xx
MVC++ 2012 xx
MVC++ 2012 xx
MVC++ 2013 xx

So it looks like im missing some 2010 from what I remember, but I have the right one for the purposes, and theres no way to go back and install these, without rolling back a bunch of updates that you cant actually roll back.

We done passed that point as Windows 7 users. 90% of us got OEMs and no CDs. And Microsoft has dropped support for it.

you did not mention your specs but Windows 8 may require you to download Directx 9, and install it despite the fact that Windows will say you have a newer version installed (I know you already said you had tried it but it would not be the first time someone saw the "you have a newer version" message and canceled the installation). and versions of Windows earlier than XP are not supported (I know it is unlikely you would be running on a PC more than 12 years old).

try right clicking the launcher and "run as administrator"

what are your PC specs, please include
CPU, (model number)
RAM (type and capacity, e.g. 2GB ddr2)
Graphics (intergrated or card, model number)
HDD/SSD (speed/capacity)
Operating System, (what version of windows and 32 or 64 bit, e.g. Windows 7 pro 64bit)

edit, saw your updated post, .net4 and visual C++ redistributable required
here is a working 64bit c++
https://www.microsof...n.aspx?id=14632

as for .net 4 all I can suggest is to remove 4.5 (go to control panel, programs and features, show installed updates, find and remove .net4.5 from the list then install 4, allowing you to install MWO before reinstalling 4.5

Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
AMD i5 dual
8 gigs ddr
Nvidia
SCSI

Tried plenty of the run as admin bit.

It seems to be acting like theres a permissions problem but there isnt. Im trying to just getting rid of the entire C++ tree, since it doesnt seem to be a problem with Windows Install Service either.

Why do I feel like this has something to do with windows 10 and their dropping of support for 7.

Alright, computers clean of c++ and any .net framework at all.

Lets try this again from the ground up.

For what its worth, this is the only game that has this problem. Why are they even using 4 year old C++ and framework anyways? Theres years newer versions of both these things.

Ok well after some exhaustive searching and a phone call with microsoft support. It appears my problem is unfixable without an OS reinstall.

Framework 2.0 and 3.5 are embedded in Windows 7 and cant be altered by the user. You have to uninstall 3.5 to install 4.0.

4.0, is made irrelevant by 4.5.1.

Most windows 7 users didnt get CDs. It was a digital OEM release and almost no one bought the boxed versions.

The only two ways this will be solved, is if Piranha updates their installer to 4.5.1 framework and no longer is dependent on 2010 C++ or the 4.0 framework.

Or Windows 10 fixes the problem altogether.

So I waits :P

Not a big deal. I was hoping to check out the new map, but not that much appears to have changed around here. Seeyah on the 29th hopefully.

Uninstall C++ and reinstall the latest version. It should work.

I was having issues with a fresh install of MWO on my son's computer which I built from scratch. I uninstalled C++ and reinstalled the newest version and it worked without a hitch.

I recently got a new Win 8.1 machine and it came with up to date .Net and DirectX. I had similar issues which I resolved by installing the slightly older version that MWO complains about not having. You may want to try this.

I'm wondering if the issues I was having may be similar to this. I built a new rig last year around november, I downloaded mwo straight away and patched it up only to be met with pure function call errors when loading into the main ui.

My pc was running windows 8.1, z97 mobo, i5, and gtx 970.

Since the initial download, I did several fresh installs to no avail, and I would patch the game every month or two and see if it would work. My last attempt was 5 days ago and I can finally play mwo. Tech support was pretty useless and I have still have no idea what was causing the errors, but so far the game is running with no issues now.

Yeah the problem is that no user can alter the 3.5 framework files. Some of which need to be overwritten to do the things suggested (like install 4.0 over it). You cant do that, because not even the admin has permissions to touch those files. Theyre embedded.

You can reinstall windows 7, but those are really rare disks. Most of them went out as preloaded, and the box version didnt sell well, and was replaced in just 6 months by windows 8.

I could get an ISO, but....why?

If anyone else has the same problem with Win7, doing a 'soft' reinstall should fix it and keep your personal files (most of them). But no repair utility, or install package is going to work.

Hopefully, as said, come the 29th, its all moot since win 10 is free. Probably because Win7, XP, and Vista, arent being supported anymore, and they all have a host of problems like this.

It was supposed to stop security flaws, but its really just a pain. Files get corrupted, thats just a fact of life. Not being able to fix a few files short a reinstall is just bad.

Of course, one could also say that MWO should not require files that are 3-6 years old to install or run. Especially not a 64bit exe using modern Install Shield. From War Thunder, to FB games, to Abandonware....it all runs fine.

MWO is just like oh? You want to run me? **** You. You need a C++ release from 5 years ago that was made obsolete not even a full year later. Why? Because **** you. Thats why.

MWO is alot of fun, but man Piranha really makes you work to have that fun.

Posted Image

And I cant for the life of me figure out what the difference is between MWO's installer suite (launcher.exe) and every other one in existence that doesnt require a really outdated and about to be nixed from Microsoft.com c++ redistributable.

If they drop 2010 this year, like they dropped 2008 last year, uh...what exactly are we going to do? Hit up Tom's Hardware and start begging like bums?

It might be time to get someone to rewrite that installer Paul.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this, or is it just an issue because I am trying to install it on Windows 7?

I had a problem with a clean install on win 7 but that tread up above helped resolve it. It was related to the c++ redistributable

Yeah once you make a clean install of Win7, or a restore, attempt to install the C++ packages in a REVERSE order.

Should work just fine.

@ Trillian

Yeah reinstall Win7 (you can use the softer option that keeps your data mostly intact) then try and install the c++ packages.

Or wait 10 days and get windows 10 and hope that fixes it.

Windows 10 won't be available to everyone at once. It will be deployed in phases now. Besides, we have no idea if it will "break" the game. Win 8 users had problems when it was new.
