INB4 "It doesn't have 75% heat generation quirks and the hard points don't teleport to the top of the mech when I want to hill peak. It's useless, it's DOA, waaaaaaaaaaaaah."

Looks like Caustic Therma now :/

Regarding the crab, it seems it can take a lot of damage for a 50 toner :)

Nice vid. looks like STD is the way to go, but with it the crab seems quite tanky.

I like the map preview, can't wait to fight at night there. Still a Nascar track, though.

To be honest, it's going to be a tough pick over other IS med laser boats such as the HBK-4P, BJ-1X, Sparky, etc. without heat gen quirks. Still, I expect it to be tankier though, especially when used with a STD engine given its size.

As for the variants, the 20 looks like the weakest having cooldown quirks without any heat reductions which will mean it'll smack into its heat threshold fast. The 27 looks like the one to have (to me anyway) with perhaps 4 MLs + 1 LPL. Not much alpha, but should allow a STD engine for zombie-crab mode and shouldn't run overly hot. The 27SL just screams MPL boat, but might be able to squeeze in triple LPL if running with an XL (or perhaps 2LPL + some MPLs)?

Anyway, the crab was, to me, easily the most interesting mech in the Res2 pack and I look forward to see how it goes tomorrow.

Edit: Eh, as for the 27B, well that'll be triple ERLL all day I suppose....

Saying it's a hard pick is one thing, and an understandable, rational response.

Saying it's immediately DOA because it doesn't have A, B, or C meta quirks (which will happen come the 6th, just watch) is a whole 'nother ball park of stupidity.

Compared to existing offerings, the Crab looks weak. Only decent quirks and not enough high mounts. But, it could be good tanky 50T 'mech if the hitbox's are good. (aka Stalker)

Watching the gameplay on Caustic-redux, it looks very use.useable to me. All the hardpoints have decent coverage, even the claws. It looks like it'll be a very competent sneaky-pokey mech.

looks pretty weak, any proper IS laser medium boat wont fear it at all with its limited hard points and quirks. The Clan mediums are generally meh as well except the Stormcrow and the Stormcrow will eat crabmeat easily given its weak quirks and IS weapons

the high mount on the head means only a single Medium laser unlike clans which can mount a ERLL

I agree with bloody. I was tempted to buy it for its looks, was really sold when i saw the size. The quirks turned me off especially seeing the c bills boosted one. Might as well wait for it to come out for c-bills

The stupidity is not realizing that IS need those quirks to go toe to toe with Timberwolves, storm crows, Arctic cheaters, and Dire wolves.

My 2 cents:
Pros:
  • Hitboxes look workable, maybe both XL and Zombie friendly, but the playstyles are completely different (zombie for CQC, XL for fast flanker and poker).
  • Looks super cool, and the cockpit is beautiful.
  • Death animation is hilarious.
Cons:
  • Lack of decent quirks (i was expecting those) make it sub-par compared to other IS mediums firepower wise, so it will have to rely on either resilience (which on a 50 tonner is as well sub-optimal) or speed (which will require an XL).
  • Hardpoints require full exposition to enemy fire, which is never good. Speed and JJs will alleviate this problem a bit.
All in all: exactly what i did expect, a fun, cool looking, fast and hot non-comp medium mech.

I'm happy with having pre-ordered it.

Really PGI?

Ok, I know that you want get rid of almost all the weapon quirks that you already gave to all mechs, but how is suppossed to be able to compete this mech (not be superior than the rest) with this quirks?

Yes, the "great rebalance and all", but when is this going to happen? I "play for fun", but I also have fun when I win and with this mech quirks I'm not in equal feet with other IS medium laser boats (not to speak about the Stormcrow or even the Nova).

I'll play it, but seriously PGI, it's so hard to gave this mech a set of quirks which makes this mech a decent choice (and I just ask for decent, not greater and even not equal quirks as other mechs have), and when you have the rebalance done give it the ones in the picture?

I agree that quirks are a band-aid and should be removed (or tweaked), but first you have to "cure the wound", and the wound is still bleeding...

So asking for play on an equal footing is a "ball park of stupidity"?

Ok, I like the mech and I don't worry about the number or hardpoint placement, but you know what is really stupid? Defending that this mech is perfectly fine when It's not.
