Yup. Pretty clear that he's ditchingnthenlaser lock on thing. Works for me, that was the only thing I didn't like on the PTS

You know I do feel for the guy, despite my ranting thread earlier.

I get the feeling Russ is trying but he himself is not the one designing these things. He is just dealing with the fallout. That's my impression anyways. Maybe he needs some fresh talent for his company

I hope they add something to do with convergence. Or some other more elegant solution

He should not be the one users go to.
If balance is the question, Paul, as lead balance developer, should be the one we go to.

I kind of figure that with all the balancing effort they keep putting in, they could actually have fixed convergence by now instead ;)

Now let's see if they go in and adjust some of the stats on a few Clan items (esp. Clan XL) and then work on making poopymechs not so poopy.

He has a twitter but he hardly does anything on it.

The guy in charge won't have much time to get his hands dirty in the detailed work most of the time. That's why he has other guys working on it. They do something, they give him a report and a presentation and based on that he'll give it the okay or veto it.

I don't think it's such a bad thing. It was an idea, they tried it on the PTS. I didn't like it but hey at least it wasn't patched directly to live. :ph34r:

Too bad. so sad.

I'd accept a 20% or even 40% nerf to the range on clan lasers, or a raise in heat, or less damage.

Locking onto a target for full damage is a counter intuitive mechanic, especially when targets are moving around each other.

i liked the lock on thing made the game more mechwarrior less random fps with robots

at least now we can get back to being able to snipe from across the map with out being seen

You think it was the poll? I think it was all the refunds they were handing out.

They know the returns everyday. They see the rapid decline.

Now maybe Russ will hire the right people and give them the latitude to get it right.

I get the feeling that he really doesn't care about the game anymore and what mechanic goes in, as long as it just goes through with as little effort or pain as possible. It has been just a paycheck to him for a while now.

Not saying thats a bad thing, but he has to keep in mind to some people its more than that, its a big part of the way they spend their time.

Yup.

I'd just like to say: even if they idea is bad, I'd rather than actually test things and get feedback than just throw **** at the wall and see what sticks on Live.

We're always on them to test stuff, so we should give them slack when they test stuff and let usntry it out.

You know, the lock on mechanic was a good idea, but doing it with laser range really inhibited play too much. If they had done "lock=convergence on locked distance" it would have been better, especially since you would even have a BENEFIT to that system (for ballistics, you'd be able to lead a converged shot if you had lock, but no without it). Eh. Good mechanic concept, just bad application.
