So I got a cheap used MSI GTX760OC on the way. Does anyone have experience with this card? I know it's last gen but from what I've been able to find out it's still a significant step up from my current Gigabyte GTX460OC and I figured that my old rig couldn't handled much more anyway.

It's a i5 2500 with 8Gb ram.

Will I see an improvement? As it is now I can play with no problems whatsoever but I'm on low settings.

460 is slow even on minimal details (10-20FPS). 680 is perfect at maximum (40-60FPS). 760 is slightly worse than 680 (by 10%), but I assume you will get maximum details at a decent FPS rate anyway. The GPU will only slow down performance for you when the game will render a lot of particles (firing several LBX guns into a wall right in front of you can test this).

I get way over 20 fps on my GTX460 but I understand there are several versions. Mine is a 1Gb that is factory overclocked.

The only thing I can say for shore is "1GB means Medium Textures;" I can only guess most everything else will also be set to medium, too.

I should think having
sys_budget_sysmem = 6144
sys_budget_videomem = 1024
sys_MaxFPS = 60
in your user.cfg would be handy …

youll be fine. 1920x1080 np on max settings with that card. my gtx 580 ran everything on high shadows medium at 1920x1200.

Also, as long as you got a quad core around 3.6-4 ghz your good with pretty much any video card out there for this game.

Should be a big upgrade. I went from a 470 to a 670.

Is anyone really playing at 1920x1080? I thought it was only for the cinema (playing and working feels weird and ugly with the missing upper and lower parts of the screen). I have seen 1280x1024 and 1920x1200 mostly at offices and at homes.

Where do yo live?

I thought it was pretty much the standard in north America at least. I prefer my 1920x1200 monitor myself :D... But TBH, most TV's, monitors, and pretty much all laptops these days though are 16:9 (1080p aspect) with 1920x1080 or higher

I agree with you though, the industry chose 16:9 but 16:10 is so very much better

I know that 16:10 are popular on sale (however, not for gaming/work; even tablets are popular, but who uses them? Nobody who is serious enough), but most people just watch TV and nothing more at home.
People still have the choice of buying a decent 5:4, 4:3, or 16:10 monitor. I just cannot understand why a person who has played games or worked on a computer before buy a cinematic-specific 16:9.

Used a 760in a buddies build. Min FPS on high at 1080p was 50 when paired with a i3 at 3.7ghz.

Sweden, it's an old hp monitor but I'm perfectly happy with it. I don't watch movies very much on it and even when I do I really think the quality is good enough, for me at least.

I have that one, had my downs and ups with it, and i found that that GPU hates not getting enough power from its PSU, so as long as you have an Active PSU with enough Wattage to feed it, you wont have much trouble with it.

Otherwise, i hope youre ready to underclock it to compensate for it and avoid alooooot of driver crashes and BSODs.

Other than that, i play at maximum with no problems, i have a OCed Core 2 Duo E8600 @4.1Ghz and 8gb DDR2 ram @800Mhz ...so yeah, im running this game on a potato with that GPU, and its running well. :)

That is not a potato! One of my first IBM PC computers that I had was running on a 8080 @ 3.5MHz with 512kB RAM with a CGA adapter and a 5MB HDD.

Man, that is a freaking relic! :D Im not that old, but my first computer had a AMD Duron @700Mhz if i remember correctly, it was decent for its time.

I just said that my computer is a "potato" because i keep reading members in here boasting alot about their i7's and i5's, and GTX980 and all that high-end NASA computer crap... But im still happy with my self-suficient low budget system... If one's got the tools, you can make an old machine run as good as a new one, and its allways so satisfying when you manage it. ^_^ I love my good old potato...

My bad. It was actually a K1810VM86+K1810VM87 (Intel 8086+8087) CPU @ 4.9152MHz (an IBM PC XT clone). The monitor was monochrome, green and black!

I also had a 110-pound printer that shook the room when printing. I think that was 1989 or 1990, and it was my fifth computer.

My current computer is over five years old, but it handles MWO well because of its video card (680GTX, i7OC @ 3.08GHz, LGA 1366 with 12GB RAM).

After 29 years of owning computers, I must really state that those tablets and the touch-screen technology are the worst inventions that slow down the progress (I do not approve some design solutions like flat design that befuddle users too). Do not take me wrong: I do not miss owning those computers, but I would take any old Commodore or Spectrum over iPad on any day at any minute. I remember pseudo-touch screen PLCs at factories with games in 1985. It was a novelty, but people understood that it is neither accurate nor effective (mostly, we have 10 fingers, not 2 opposing thumbs).

Do you have any preference to what program to use to run the FPS tests? Posted Image

And nope, actually its in 1080p.
Spoiler

And as an extra, this is my MSI settings, note that i have run my GPU with underclocked memory... I still have to buy the new PSU to run it to the max so it wont crash because of crappy voltage problems...
