Ugh, I'd pass on the Alpha fighter.... it's a flat out down grade from the VF-1 Valkyrie.... slower, less agile and less well armoured.... Yes it packs more missiles, but they are much shorter ranged missiles.....
It looks way cooler.

Alphas really did their job best in brawls where stand-off fighting wasn't going to be an issue, especially in atmosphere and near-ground engagements.
Plus, they were designed as a combiner part, what with the whole Alpha-Beta thing, and Betas were the part with the longer-reaching missile complement.

mhm...
If canonized, we're taking MW4 examples into our mind much like the previous canonised mechs
Stock load out:
ER Lg Laser (2), CSTRK 6 (MW4's acronym for Clan Streak SRM 6), Clan LBX AC 10
(location, left to right on our view on it)
LBX AC right arm
ER large laser right torso
SSRM 6 left torso
Clan LBX 10 left arm.
So...
"Hellhound Alt. Config. Prime":
2 x ER large laser
1 x SSRM 6
1 x LBX 10
Now the alternatives... it has a ballistic hardpoint too in the side torso and 2 weapons in the arm on concept art so...
First lets look at the guy who did our drawing I showed above, he made an alt.config A, B, C, and D... in order:
Hellhound Alt. Config. A
2 x ER medium laser
1 x ER small laser
2 x UAC 5
1 x LRM 10
Hellhound Alt.Config. B
2 x Heavy Medium Laser
1 x UAC 10
2 x LRM 15
Hellhound Alt.Config. C
2 x Heavy Medium Laser (In MWO these will be subbed for ER medium lasers)
1 x UAC 10
2 x LRM 15
Hellhound Alt.Config. D
1 x Improved Heavy large laser (in MWO this will be subbed for ER Large laser)
1 x Gauss Rifle
2 x Streak LRM 5 (in MWO these will be subbed for LRM 5's)
So far consistent. However we can easily create more alt.configs...
Such as an energy boat variant in all but the missile torso. Say...
2 x ER medium laser, 2 x Medium Pulses laser, 1 x Large pulse laser, 1 x SSRM 6.
Jumpjets was an option in MW: O so JJ could be an option
of course all of this is hypothetical as there is only "1" Alt.Config. apocryphally which is the MW4 variant as this mech ever only existed there. It's up to catalyst games if they want to canonize it and if so what load outs it can have.
But looking at the potential this would be a monster in MW with high hardpoints, mix ballistic, missilee, and energy potential... etc.

I know, just saying I prefer the Valkyrie over the Alpha, especially the Strike Valkyrie, being able to engage 6 Alpha Fighters from BVR and stand a good chance at knocking them out of the fight before they can do anything is nice.

One nice thing about the huge missile complement on the Alpha is being able to use them in AMM and basically outlast even a heavy missile loadout. (What, nobody else here ever played with the Palladium game?). The Valkyrie's definitely the better all-round design though, given superior agility and options - Alphas really are designed as half of a complimentary Alpha-Beta pair vs. a single-pilot upgradable chassis.

There is a reason why I called for the Strike variant, the extra missile pod (and ability to make it into orbit under it's own power) is very handy....

Black Lanner is the one I want most. I know it's not the most optimized mech around but I still love it.
