After playing a few scouting missions this evening, I've found that there are a few basic guidelines that need to be expressed.
DOs
Communicate with your team.
Lock targets.
Use a fast mech with short to medium range weapons.
Stick close to your lance.
DON'Ts
Even think of entering Faction Play with a trial mech.
Use a mech that hasn't at least been elited.
Use LRMs.
Play Faction Play until you have a LOT of matches under your belt. Faction Play isn't the place to cut your teeth.

If there was a requirement from the client that all 4 mechs you set for invasion are elited and equipped with all module slots, a lot of problems would have been solved.

For scouting ONLY i agree, for invasion you should not state those two as fact. They are not.
This depends heavily on defending/attacking and team strategy.
