I havent fielded my Cyclopses( spelled right ?) yet, have been setting up very different builds with some of them but lack c-bills to improvise further. Had them all with STD engines, lowest being std 285 for one.
Time to hit the battlefield it seems..

Easy: it's for the "Slap and Tickle"

Slap em with SRMs

Tickle em with a medium laser

Kinda like the Atlas S7. Bring those lasers in case you run out of ammo.

so far in my limited use, seem spretty middle of the pack. Not terribly tough, but not terribly fragile. I survived all my matches so far, while packing an XL. But with only a handful of drops hard to say if I was spreading damage well, or simply facing people who can't hold their lightsabering still.

Offensively, can't say I'm in love with it, haven't really settled on a build though either. But it's definitely not an Insta Dog, or Champ. Once unlocked fully, with the right builds, at least some variants might be solid performers. I only have the basic pack, but I don't think any of them are terrible.

I'm a big fan, though several of my builds are essentially versions of each other only slightly tweaked to accommodate the available hardpoints.

The ECM variant seems like the weakest, which is probably a good thing from a balance standpoint, though if PGI ever pulls the trigger on the infowar PTS changes for ECM (which I've been advocating for years now) then that might need to change.

The Cyclops is currently suffering from "we want to reduce quirks on all pre-Kodiak mechs but haven't gotten around to it so we'll just not over-quirk all mechs from the Kodiak forward" syndrome. So, until ED gets put in game and every other mech gets its quirks reduced, all of the new mechs are simply going to suffer in comparison. It isn't fair and I don't much like it but I know that to be what is going on. After all, why have PGI uber quirk something only to reduce it later on?

It was a worthwhile buy. Not overly powerful or weak and it requires some skill to get the most from it since it's clearly not a frontline brawler despite the Z packing an AC20. I like the Sleipnir but that gauss ammo goes quickly.

Sacrifices need to be made, too: it's not fast even with a large engine (yes, it's an assault) but could get better as an elite. More armor means fewer weapons. You seem to really have to pick and choose your engagements.

I am liking mine. Agree with Bishop how its middle of the pack. I am not seeing anywhere as good scores as you guys have posted. The rendering is pretty.

Also! Not for nothing, the highly touted Tacticon B computer, feels like every other computer. Give it maybe different fonts? Different color. Cursor? Voice? Something to differentiate a BATTLECOMPUTER.

It looks cool. The hit boxes actually spread damage as good as can be expected with the given geometry and size. With its agility, it runs XL engines quite well, which opens up a lot of possible builds. And even if you go for a smaller STD, you're still not as sluggish as most assaults.

I'm still mostly trying builds. Quad-UAC Sleipnir works as well as expected, but I feel like I'm wasting the opportunity to run something faster. SRM-based brawlers appear to be very potent, too. The only thing that doesn't really work for me are energy heavy builds, since the arm mounts are relatively low. The speed helps, but it still feels awkward.

I'm not willing to write them off yet, but I'm not clicking with them like others yet. I don't think it's necessarily the mech, more a Me thing (I'm notoriously terrible with humanoid mechs, I'm just better in crabby chicken walkers).

So I'm still experimenting with builds but I did find pretty decent performance with
near max armour, STD360, 6xMPL, 2xSRM4 with 3 tons reloads. Splitting the MPL into 2 groups of 3 it ran surprisingly cool, easy to manage heat and still deal damage. Also allowed good corner peaks.

Overall, feels underwhelming for an assault's firepower, but at least I'm tanking lots of damage and sharing armour I suppose.

I've just played a couple of games in mine but they seem alright, and I'm not a native assault pilot.

Played a couple games in the Z with a 350, LB-10X, 2 SRM 4's and 6 ML's and it was fun.

Tried the Q with LRM 5's just because I could and it was awful. Put SRM4's in instead. I prefer SRM's and AC's together. I'm better at mixed builds.

Hitboxes seemed okay. I was spreading damage alright. I think they need at least a 325 engine in for speed. But at full armor it feels underarmed.

I'm liking it so far. Rolls dmg better than my maulers, prob due to the rounder shape and external lasers on the arm. Not been getting great dmg all games but I'm definitely having a lot of fun. Cp-z with ac20, 2 ppc, 4 mpl is a ton of fun and prob will work decently well when ED rolls out.
Cp-q with 7 srm 6 and ml thrown in isn't bad either but this would probably be a bad idea when ED goes live
Sleipnir is the only one I play like my mauler with quad uac5 and the head ml is a nice bonus to zombie round in

How are the Cyclops of the base pack? All viable or there are variants not so good? I am tempted, might upgrade the Slepnir later...

For anyone out there, how does this run?

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...65beb883e05949e

7 ASRM4s. I prefer the ASRM4 over a plain SRM6 because it deals more damage to the places I want it to with the shorter cooldown and much tighter spread pattern. also if energy draw comes out it won't be super heavily effected anymore than the normal firing it in two groups.

Do the arms shield decently well?
