Assuming that we'll get 1 new 'Mech released per each 3rd Wednesday of a month and that MWO would launch at summer 2012, we could see from 4 up to 7 new 'Mechs announced in theory. Keeping in mind 6 already known models, it's quite reasonable to guess, that developers would release equal number of 'Mechs in each class, thus, skipping boring reasoning, we may get 12 'Mechs at game launch at August.

Of course that's only my speculation, caused only by so long expected venerable franchise revival.

Many of us came to that conclusion with/without how many they show us. that is 3 types for each weight class at launch.

They dont have to show us every mech that they are going to launch with. They could not show us another new mech from now till launch and it would not affect how many mechs they plan on giving us in the end. Hell, we could get a video from that playtest way back when next supprise wednsday for all we know and then how many mechs will we get at launch!?

Seems to me that any game review is going to be critical if MWO only has 10 or 12 mechs at launch. I expect closer to 20 mechs.

The whole 3rd Wednesday reveal is meant to keep player interest and hype flowing in the community. Theres no rule that says they cant reveal 2 or 3 mechs at a time as we get closer to launch.

12 core Mechs with two each variants is the most I'm expecting. but I'm a pessimistic guy.

With the right variants a nice mix of mechs will be the norm during pickup games.

Less Mechs is better. Craft them. Love them. Balance them. Unbalance them. Make all the window shapes different. Add a ding under the console. Make each Hud look totally different. Put Hula girls in them. Make them special. Then spend 3 months making another one. Sell it to me for money. See Bob over there? He's been drooling over a Raven for 20 years. Don't give him a Spider that's a chickenwalker, give him a Raven that he can see as "his special mech". Getting into an MWLL mech and thinking "Wait, which mech was this agian?" Should never ever happen again.

If there's 20 mechs in the game, you know they're all gonna run about/look about the same from the inside. Quite a few MW4 Mechs are litereally small tweaks on another chassis. Do we want MechPr0n or do we want our simulated dreams? Quantity isn't Quaility. Mechs controls should be so different that you'll spend a month "Mastering" one before trying another. That's what I hope.

For Beta Launch, I am sure that's all we will see. but from there once you have the weight classes down, its just a case of adding graphics to the frame works, and then the applicable physics/graphics/damage/classes to each armor class, and frame style, you can add 12 to each of the basic 12 frame works, and bang that's a 144 mech styles...

But 12 playable mechs are better than Zero, which is where we ""the waiting public"" are now....

I'll start with whatever they have ready at launch and go from there. But with the way history is moving 12 IS mechs at launch is going to be pretty sparse, especially when they are going to have to think about modeling Clan mechs soon due to the imminent invasion. then again it may just be a question of how many resources the DEV team has to be simply for creating and animating individual mechs. In any case I'm sure we'll get more, especially one the microtrans shop opens.

You would think that the devs would increase the 'Mechs that come out every month or so, to keep people interested. Maybe, maybe not, but it would make sense.

Who knew?

12 at launch would be fine. They are probably going release 1-2 mechs every month (ala LoL)...so they need to pace themselves. There are only so many mechs during this era.

I think I would be fine with 16 mechs at launch. A single mech for every increment of 5 tons. Quality > Quantity all day. When you have 16 mechs you have plenty of love to put into them. Viking summed it up nicely.

12 mechs is enough common mech designs but i expect a handful of house mechs to show up too before the beta.

Personally I would still play the game if there was only 4 mechs available. Lucky for me, there are already 6 so better for me!

laying witheven a limited number of mechs is better than none. Don't forget it's F2P as well.

I support a Catapult study-sim with clickable cockpit, and 800+ page manual!
It'll be like Falcon 4 of the 31st century!

12 basic mechs at launch with unlockable house and rare mechs available later seems like it would help keep player interest after release.

Considering the pilot levels and mech levels that they stated in their Q&A not too long ago, I'm sure that 12 mechs will give plenty of tactical variety at launch.
