I am hoping for at least one of every tonnage. 20,25,30, etc. The game has hundreds of mechs in the fluff, not just the 3025 stuff and its varients, but there is also the star league mechs which many are still around as well, although mostly refitted with current era gear which is equivalent to 3049 tech.
Specifically an Annihilator, raven, warhammer, and Marauder fit highly on my list of must haves. An Awesome is an iconic mech for House Steiner just as the Dragon is for the DCMS. Dervish and Trebuchets a should be there. Heh I hope to see even a Firestarter. It would be killer for a urban fight, especially if flames screw with vision as well.

The number of mechs at start has increased as we now know we will be getting variants. I wonder how many people will pilot the Swayback rather than the standard Hunchback?

Prepare to be disappointed. The Clan invasion doesn't start in earnest until next year. The Mad Cat and Vulture wont be around till then.

With 12 mechs at start I am betting 3 for each weight class. A "starter" And 2 upgrades. Hopefuly for the lighter classes the upgrades will focus on different aspects of the class. I.E. Radier verses Rcon, or Hunter killer verses Trooper.

I have yet to see it stated that they're going to preview-release all the 'mechs they design. I'd expect more than 12 at launch, though I doubt they'll be able to cover all the hundreds of I.S. 'mechs. However, with the "variants" comment in the latest Devblog, I do have to wonder if we'll see a limited number a chassis (maybe one or two per 5 ton weight bracket), but multiple configurations with different weapon/armor/equipment layouts. That would allow for a decent amount of variety in gameplay off the bat, but without having to design and animate too many things.

I will always have a soft spot for the Timberwolf. Hopefully we will be able to use one if not on release then during/after the invasion (seeings how the Timberwolf is a clan design).

I suspect that we're are going to see more then 12 mech on release.

If they're only going to have 12 mechs on release then they have have made some odd choices going on the mechs already confirmed.

In particular there are three Iconic house designs already confirmed the commando, Jenner and Dragon. Which while not unknown outside of their house are unusual.

Having 25% of your 'mechs as house specific designs doesn't fit with a 12 release, especially considering that both confirmed light 'mechs are house specific meaning that the other four factions would be mainly using the third light mech.

I suspect that we won't have more then 20 mech types on release, probably in the region of 18-20.

Not to mention that if it takes a Month to produce ONE Mech, the after Launch Bi-Weekly Content updates are going to be very sour to many a player as they arrive in Universe. :)

I dont think that faction will be so important when aquiring a battlemech.
I am aiming at 12 mechs on launch, 16 would be awesome.
I also dont think we have many chances of seeing unseen or reseen mechs or mechs with focus on melee.
I will really miss the unseen, lots of classics there.

My bets would be from these shortlist.

Light
Raven, Wolfhoud, Firestarter.

Medium
Vindicator, Withworth, Blackjack, Clint

Heavy
Orion, Grashoper, Jaggermech

Assault
Awesome, Zeus, Cyclops, Victor
But looks like the devs like the Stalker and Banshee a lot.

GuntherK pretty much summed it up. Those mechs are good front runners for the slots and 12 seems to be the magic number.

I would seriously hope that mechs are fully available to the general public for the most part. Otherwise it would lead to some serious ballance issues. I for one am looking forward to piloting a Dragon and last i checked the GDL wasnt in good good standing with House Kurita (BT Lore wise).
