If this turns out to be as good as what they are hyping it to be..this could change MWO into a totally immersed mech sim(if they eventually support it)! Really interested to see where this is going.

Discuss!

I'm not holding my breath as it has to be coded specifically for the deviuce. So far only one game has been coded for it.

That said, if I hade more money and talent I would buy a developer's kit and code it my self, then release the mod as shareware. With MWO's permission of course ;)

I could see PGI picking this up. If Hawken can do it, i'm sure MWO can ;)

There might be a slight problem with compatibility, since it's developed for Unreal Engine 3 right now, but I'm all for it.

I would not purchase the current dev kit. The creator has already stated that this is meant for developers not end users. The final version will have a much higher resolution display and be a finished product unlike the current product that will be handed out with the kickstarter

Oh...My....what? Really hope this takes off, in-home VR that actually works would be amazing.

Also, I agree, SDK for CryEngine 3 is necessary, because I want a pseudo-neurohelmet I can integrate that into for MWO.

Hawken's probably going for it because they don't have anything else to bring to the table.

I'd wait for CryTek to pick this up first. Should be soon if they are still pushing the technological edge rather than fornicate with currentgen consoles.

it's called a gimmick, and it's meant to exploit dumb people.

Meh.

The devs have bigger things to worry about. Once the game's been out for a while and the community warfare is in and balanced, then maybe. In the meantime, I don't want them to waste a single second working on adding in gimmicks like VR/head tracking.

Don't get me wrong, I do find gimmicks like head tracking to be immensely fun/nifty, but I want a solid, fully functional game before I worry about adding switches and do-dads. :(

I dunno about that, man. People have been dreaming of this sort of VR for a long time, it just hasn't been responsive (or cheap) enough until now. Being able to use your own head as a controller could be pretty frickin' immersive and useful; they could even make it possible to look around your mech's cockpit to see more info displays, make use of peripheral vision, or to make it easier to aim your arm weapons separately simply by looking at your target. If it is responsive and works properly, as it seems to, I don't see what is gimmick-y about this. At all.

The device will take loads of programming and effort to make it work with the game, and all for the benefit for the 0.1% of players who will actually buy it. I'd much rather the devs put those ours of work into shooty robots that we all can enjoy.

And my personal opinion on the device: VR goggles are still not viable, will end up being a gimmick or an expensive plaything for showing off purposes that will be turned off at the first sight of proper gaming.

Cinco, you came off little harsh, but too quick to judge.

You see, I was unsure if this would be worth investing. I know what you mean. I've had VR experience before and it never have been worthy to use majority.

So I investigated a bit to see what make it different from other typical VRs that I've come across. I found out that it has optical lens on the front of the eye pieces. It would create that fish eye effect in reverse to make its center of focus point become part of your eyes. in other words, it would make your view to 3D world much wider. This is something that VRs have not done lately.

So I'm interested but I'm not gonna jump on board too quickly. I'll wait for product release and more review afterward. I'm more impressed that it got a lot of major videogame developers interests into it.
