[[well, in Damon's case...it's use your distraction to get the heck out of dodge.]]
As soon as he thought it, something changed. The comms opened up, staticy and talking something about ducks. But the mechs and dropships seemed to get the message.
At once all mechs turned and regrouped nearer to the dropship, approximately 600m to Damons 2 o'clock. The dropships furious counter-attack against his virus slowed, and that was where Damon had his chance.
Damon killed the connection once and for all. The virus, set to self-destruct, unleashed one last wave before dieing...activating all the emergency alarms. The Jenner powered up to full, ECM now struggling to return to its normal operating capability, as it turned and jumped South, away from the Overlord, away from the mechs, and hopefully out to safety.
Not fast enough.
Damon felt the Gauss slug blast through his right arm. The hyper-velocity didn't just obliterate the Large Laser and armpiece, it passed through it, and kept going. Which was lucky, otherwise the slug might've sent his mech into a seven story death fall. Damon figured it might've been one last burst of retaliation from the Overlord, but he couldn't care less. The flashing Yellow and Red lights told him all he needed to know.
If he wanted to live, he had to keep running.
[[Jammer back up to full capacity, the distraction from the virus will cease, and at the very least the dropship defending mechs are organizing on the tarmacs. As for Damon, he's taking the long way to hook up with Orc and pull out. Minus one arm as well.
