We already have the target screen showing damage done to a mech.
It would be nice if there was a module you can activate, that shows the damage information of the paper doll as overlay on your target.

Just a quick example of how this could look:

Posted Image

This would be nice for shooting the remaining leg of a mech off for example.
It's not always easy to shoot the intact leg if you can't tell from the paper doll, which one it is.

Module:

Target Damage Overlay

15.000 GXP to unlock

6.000.000CB to buy

Rules:
  • only works for the user of the module
  • only works if you can target the mech (so it can't be used on ECM covered mechs until you get close enough to target them)
  • the module will only put a slight colored overlay over the targetted mech that won't make it stand out more than usual
  • only works in normal view, not in heat view or night view mode
  • can't be used together with advanced zoom module (you can equip both but only one of them can be active at a time)

EDIT:
This is just an idea and would require adjustments to prevent it from being overpowered and to have reasonable GXP/CB cost.
Also updated the description to be more detailed.

Sounds like an idea for a module.

I like it. The best part is that being a module, people that don't like it don't need to install it.

Yeah great idea for a module. I'd make it a toggle, so it can be turned on and off....like advanced zoom.

Or maybe make it a button that must be held to view, like how Q works to bring up team info. That way the pilot can see exactly where their target is damaged at a glance, but it simply wouldn't be practical to keep it activated at all times while piloting.

Though, I'd make it pretty expensive...since it's pretty dang useful.

20,000 GXP
12,000,000 C-Bills

I think this idea is neat. I don't think it should be added. Here's why:

It's an aiming aid. Even if it was optional, it would just mean that those with it would have a major advantage over those that don't. It would make hitting the mech easier because it makes it stand out more. It would make hitting the cockpit easier, because once you damage the chest or the cockpit, suddenly the hitbox is a different color. Now you just put the crosshair on the target and pull the trigger.

Good thinking, but I don't think this one is a winner.

Love it!

Edit: As Canned Wolf stated, it might get out of hand. It's a great idea as long as it remains an aid, not a huge bonus over the competition.

Eventho it's a cool idea there's a hitch, actually a couple, which make this suggestion a no go. This would oversimplify the game.

Primarily, the current damage indication colors would give away any mech in a forest or that is far away. It would be like having heat vision and regular textures.

Secondly, the main point of the current HUD indicator instead of a 3D model infront of you is to make the player look at that par of the screen if he wants to know what to hit. That way it gives the other guy a chance to do a surprise attack.

Thirdly, you may think it's cool now but wait till people start hitting your bad arm or bad side torso right of the bat. Yes, that WILL BE annoying.

I see your points and I agree that it shouldn't make a mech visible over a long distance. At least not more than it would be with one of the other vision modes.

A sollution could be to limit its range to 300-400m for example.
Another counter could be the now implemented ECM. If a mech is covered by an ECM bubble you won't get the overlay.

Also, this module would not show on any mechs unless you target them. Not like heat view where you can clearly see everyone.
If the mech is behind an object you won't be able to see anything either.
It should be no more than the already existing paperdoll projected over your target. Maybe not even shaped like the actual mech, but just as a rough indicator where a mech is damaged.

Thing is the colors. I know that it's supposed to show up only on the mech you're targeting but it's still those colors. Imagine a bright yellow silhouette approaching you through the forest. You shouldn't be bale to see it properly but you do this way.
If there was a way that this suggestion wouldn't highlight your target as if it was a catapult before the lighting fix I'd be all for it. ECM aside.

If you don't see it, you can't target it.
If you can target it, you know where it is and even can estimate where specific body parts are, just because of the red target markers.
If someone else targets it, you will know where it is, but won't see any overlay till it's in your line of sight.

Colors should only shade the sections of the mech and not overwrite the existing colors/camo.

An easy mode targeting module for all those who already play all day long and could buy several of them? What a great idea?
