I excuse in advance for my bad english. I'm from germany and try my best to explain my concerns in english but it could be not as good as it should be. Be not too harsh with me. ;)

The thing that bugs me the most is this:
Why are there are no real textures for damages of weapons to the BattleMech armor? Why the armor glows red when they are hit by ballistic projectiles or explosive weapons instead of showing bullet holes? Why there is no fire or melting signs on the armor when hit by a high powered laser?

This is how it looks when a real IR and green combined laser beam hits an iron plate.

And this how it looks when a ballistic weapon like an AC or explosive weapons like rockets hits a tank armor (similar to BattleMech Armor).

I found it very strange that the the armor will only glow red when its hit by projectile or explosive weapons (Gauss Rifle, Rockets or AC's) but no damage decals from projectile weapons are shown on the armor.

In the concept art it looks different. Fluff stuff though, it'll probably be added to act/look more realistic with ballistic damage.

The armor glows when hit by ballistics because it is ablative and isn't pierced. When the shell hits, that energy is converted to heat heating up the armor causing it to slag off. We have no tank armor that is similar to the mech armor in BT.

While I agree there should be more decals for the damage, it shouldn't look like what we see with our armor today due to the difference in function of the armor.

Notice the ballistic damage in the concept art. A. It looks more awesome. B. Real world explanations don't apply real well to a game or future sci-fi Battle Tech.

Sure, but in the novels the behave of the armor is describe really detailled when it was hit by different weapons. It is accuratly described that huge armor pieces where blasted away when it hit by Gauss Projectile, AC Ammunition or Missiles and the the armor (no matter if it was Ferro Fibrious, Reactive or Reflective Armor) is melting when a Laser Beam hits the armor and a deep cut is shown on the armor plate.

I would love to see this type of thing in MWO!!!... I would also like to see the glowing stop after a Mech was killed and was on the ground for a while. However once dead they stay glowing at the moment... The better the damage model and effects the happier I will be for sure...

The other thing that bugs the whoeey out of me is you have a mech from 30tons to 90tons doing anywhere from 50kph to 120kph right... They slam into a wall or another mech because they were not watching what was around them. I want that to cause alot of damage!!! You cant tell me that it wouldn't if this were "real" persay... lol...

Especially while "World of Tanks" (the competeting product to MWO) shows a real realistic damage model on his tanks.

Sounds good, though I wouldn't place it above fixing the netcode or adding new 'mechs and maps (or the metagame).

Pretty sure that tank is dead. Unless they changed things the only damage models are the track blowing off and hole decals. THe dead model always looks the same. I wouldn't call it a realistic model.

Yeah, right. Do you remember the annoucing trailer one year ago with destroyable buildings? Great stuff. ;)
What do think what happened to a BattleMech when you blow the building he stand in into pieces? I think he will get some serious damgage by falling debris. :(

I really want destroyable enviroment and realistic damage on a BattleMech armor. It gives a hell of immense satisfaction if you can see what kind of damage you have caused.

I remember a screenshot with a damaged centurion, showing actual damage and some internals in plain sight

but I can't find it again

I think the glow as damage indicator is only place holder, and in future we are gonna get the glow on impact and the real damage after

Nope, this was the announcement trailer for MechWarrior 5 or later MechWarrior Online. And it was Ingame footage. It was a pity that they don't follow their first intention.

Just to remember:

Not the same game. As pointed out earlier.

Also, as pointed out earlier, this is a rendering, not in game video at all.

I would love real time, location accurate damage models as much as anyone on the planet but I think they're still pretty impractical especially for an animated character model. Usually you get a damage texture decal in the general area and maybe a modified animation, which are hard enough to put on the model right. Our damage decal is a brightening of the general area because lasers are hot, and hot things glow right?
Ballistics are the same because that is much easier. What damage we do see (limbs come off, torso destroyed) is just a big predetermined chunk that pops off.

So yeah, that would be totally awesome, but personally I want more mechs and maps and game modes first.
You know if they were to implement real time destruction modeling you should 8 shoot small lasers at a mech it would geyser off burning armor spraying across the map non stop until everyone's client crashed, at least until it was tweaked ;)

Actually that was a different game, completely different engine, completely different timeline, completely different focus. The devs even say so. They could get no one to fund that game, so they didn't do anything with that. Instead they scrapped it and began to make something that was pure multiplayer. You couldn't hope for that level of graphics in a multiplayer only game.
