I've identified my best mechs after over 160 hours of playing to be:
Posted Image
The Triple LBX IM and the Quad Large Laser Flame are both rocking! They almost always guarantee me at least 2 kills and are my go-to heroes whenever my KDR drops too much due to testing out new builds. The crazy thing about Flame is that it shoots 4 large lasers in just 2 beams making enemies think I am firing only 2 large lasers and ignore me most of the time! They usually get cored through by the second time I hit the same spot. The LBX on the IM is so monstrous because given 10 chances to crit per cannon, I would say each cannon does at least 13 damage spreaded out for a combined 39 damage and when combined with 3 medium lasers, its really deadly. Especially deadly is its ability to set off ammo and gauss in the side torsos, resulting in the satisfying chain reaction of "Component Destroyed" "Component Destroyed" "Enemy Destroyed". I get that alot using the triple LBX.

I'm really partial to my HBK-4G. It's not an easy button mech, but it's a good mech overall.

While not exactly proof, it is slightly worrying your two best mechs are Hero Mechs. Those Two in particular do have attractive hardpoints.

Does best mech have to be the one you do the best in or just your favourite?

I like my modded HBK 4G(F) Endo, 12 Double HS, 3 Med Pulse, AC 20 + 3 tons of ammo, CASE. When Machine guns receive a buff I may swap the head med pulse for a medium laser, take out a heat sink and add 2 machine guns and a ton of ammo to the hunch.

EDIT: Spelling

My AWS-8R(SRM boat) and K2 cat(dual AC20's).

Havent found any other mechs i can get 5-6 kills a game in yet, although i could in a jenner before ECM nerfed jenners into scrap piles.

HBK-4SP with Artemis SRM6s and Quad Mlas w/ back up head Slas. Runs at 79kph, flanks quickly, and dismembers anything. 53 Alpha strike 3 times and a 4th for the shutdown...I love it.

My next is my CPT-K2 dual Gauss with 2x Mlas and 2x Slas 265XL engine. 66kph, reaches out like the finger of God and cores anything. I either win big with this thing or break even constantly. Most kills in a match has been 6 for me. When I die, it is because I have been surrounded by the whole enemy team and my time is up.

I can't wait to build a Grinder Atlas, Laser or LRM boat Stalker, and I still have an eye out for a Cataphract. Would like a light mech that is super killy but have no idea where to start there.

Best mech being the ones that gets you the best kills. :)

Indeed, these two hero mechs have hardpoints that allows you to do what most mechs couldn't... a little bit of a p2w for me there...

My HBK-4SP with dual SRM6 + Artemis and 4x MLS

And my CN9-AL, also with dual SRM6 and 2x MPLS and 2x MLS

Lately I've also been enjoying my CN9-D, with only 2x SRM6 + 2x MLS. Going 100kph and just unleashing alpha strikes in mech' backs is fun~

My best mechs (besides anything that carries an ECM)
Before ECM there would have been some lights in this list too....but now - you know jsut get a RVN-3L and whatever

HBK-4P
260 std engine
ES structure
9 med laser
18 DHS
90KPH can do 2x45dmg alpha strikes without overheating.
Great mech to hunt heavies and assaults.
Looks small and fragile compared to 80+ ton mechs
and is thus mostly underestimated by the enemy

DRG-5N
350 XL enigine
ES structure
2 LPL
1 SSRM2
3 MGs
15 DHS
95 KPH
Similar to OP Flame build. People just don't see that you constantly do 20dmg with that laser arm.
It is great since it is very heat efficient and rarely overheats. SSRM is to scare off lights
and the MGs are just for fun. (Better do put additional HS in though)
Most enemies focus on the ballistics arm of the Dragon, and dont get that my main weapon is in the samll energy arm.

STK-5S
std 300 engine
ES structure
4 PPC
2 SSRM2
19 DHS
60 KPH
A deadly monstrosity

and finally my 4xAC5
CTF-4X
255 XL

Centurion -AL with 3 large lasers and an LRM-10 and an XL-260 engine. Medium ranger, try not to get into a slugging match with it (decent armour but that XL is too delicate), 'skirmisher'?

Stalker -5S with 2 PPCs, 2 LRM-10s, 4 medium lasers and a standard 255 engine with dual AMS and a BAP. Can't really move, but the firepower's nice (8 DHS + 10 in engine keeps those PPCs nice and cool)

Jenner -7D with dual Streak SRMs, 4 medium lasers, and an XL-255 engine. I almost never run it solo, thanks to ECM nowadays, though with a buddy also running ECM I can put those streaks to good use. We usually speed through empty areas of the map and backstab lone mechs.

Well, my all time favourite is:
Hunchback -4P
-STD 260
-8 medium lasers
-TAG
-as many DHS as you can fit
(-speed tweak)

Atlases die before they know what hit 'em and Stalkers lose their legs. Personally I find having a TAG in there more efficient than one extra medium laser. You can actually use the TAG laser for scanning how much lead you have to take to hit light mechs, or you can use it as an laser sight and play without HUD entirely. :)

My current favourites are:
Stalker -5S
-4PPC
-XL 255
-as many STD heatsinks as you can fit

Flame (hero)
-XL 350
-LB 10-X AC + 2 tons of ammo
-4 medium lasers
-SRM 6 + 1 ton of ammo
-endo steel structure
-as many DHS as you can fit
(-speed tweak)

PPC stalker will stop any assault in their tracks, and Flame is the best brawler/scout I've had. Makes the enemy lights run. I pretty much never play alone, so the lack of close range weapons on the Stalker is not a problem.

Hunch 4P: 9 x med Lasers, 19DHS, you fire 2 alphas until overheating - that kills almost everything, exept Raven ;-)
Hunch 4SP: 5 x med Lasers, 2 x SSRM2, Tag, AMS, 16DHS (keep distance 180m-270m )
Stalker 3F: 5 x med Lasers, 4 x SRM6, AMS, 21DHS (close combat)

I do like all Cats, too, but for some strange reason I always was the primary target, regardless of variant.

Oh yes, the 9ML hunchie is scary as hell!

I'm not accusing you specifically of paying to win, just when I saw two Hero Mechs on the best mechs thread I thought uh oh haha.

I would still go for the 4G it's the one I pilot the most and have gotten the most kills in, and highest score. I'm sure I'd be consistently better in some other mechs such as the AC/20 cat. I'd rather pilot a mech that I enjoy piloting rather than just go for kills.

Using Tag as a lead scanner really is something I've never thought of!!! Hit the lasers only when the tag reticle turns red! WOW!!!! I need to try that to prevent wasting heat!

I've got a couple of builds I love to play around with.

For starters my favorite mech by far is:
Catapult K2
2x PPC
2x Medium Pulse Laser
Standard 275 Engine
Endo Steel
20 Double Heat Sinks

With maxed out skills I run around at 75kph and I can absolutely stomp people with this build. Fast, Agile, Large torso twisting, and with 20DHS you can fire off for quite a while before you overheat.

A build that I've been playing with recently that I've had a ton of fun with is:
Stalker-3F
6x PPC
280 XL Engine
17 Double Heat Sinks

This build is so much fun, it feels like you're in an AT-AT laying down lightning. I love it when I one shot light mechs, mediums, and some heavies :) It's got it's drawbacks, which is being slow, a big target, and overheating like crazy which is why it's not my main mech.

My Founders Hunchback also works really well, throw in DHS, 3x Medium Lasers, and 3 tons of AC/20 Ammo. Nomnomnomnom.
