cone of fire calculator:
shows the cone of fire for any SRM or LBX type weapon based on the distance measurement given by the target reticle.

would display a ring on screen that would show what targets might be hit by the spread of fire on your weapon. the size of the ring would be based on the target reticle distance indicator. could also be combined with precision weapon reticles to give even more detailed and accurate targetting information. if combined with precision weapon reticles the ring would move to coincide with the target indicator for the individual weapons possibly resulting in multiple rings on screen.

uses:
  • more effective use of shotgun effect type weapons
  • more accurate fire
pros:
  • can be combined with precision weapon reticles for amplified effect
  • allows for more efficient use of weapons with spread
  • reduces friendly fire incedents
cons:
  • rings may sometimes mislead payers into thinking they will hit a near target when the ring is targeted on a far away object.
  • adds to screen clutter.
  • may encourage players to take unnecessary risks example: wanting to get closer for a more tightly grouped shot.
  • only useful for a very limited group of weapons.
  • ring is calculated only based on the center of the reticle, so the ring becomes less relevant the closer or farther away other objects are from that point.
flavor text: internal computer uses distance data from sensors combined with recorded data on the cone of fire for spread type weapons to show an estimated zone of impact.

From Sarna

Chameleon Light Polarization Shield

The Chameleon system was designed to make a 'Mech invisible to the naked eye. By using a primitive mimetic system, the outline of the 'Mech carrying it was broken up, blending into the surrounding terrain. The Chameleon was very effective because unlike the Null Signature System it worked against sensor systems and visual observation.
As one of the key technology advances of the Terran Hegemony and Star League, the Chameleon LPS was jealously guarded. It was never deployed in large numbers, appearing only on one variant of the Exterminator used by the Star League Defense Force Royal Divisions.[2] (The Chameleon may have been installed on one or more versions of the Spector, or retrofitted into 'Mechs used by the SLDF Special Armed Services units however.) ComStar used the few Chameleon LPS systems they had to develop the Mimetic Armor used by the Purifier Adaptive battle suit. Later, the Word of Blake would use the technology of the Chameleon LPS, Null Signature System, and Stealth Armor to develop their Void Signature System.
Though several Exterminators equipped with the CLPS were a part of the Exodus, the Clans saw it as a dishonorable tool used by inferior warriors and mothballed it.

I had an idea to do almost the same thing as this thread...but...

You've taken it to far.

When you list ideas, just categorize alphabetically them and leave them with just the idea. No need for Pro's, Con's, etc. Just leave the "raw" idea.

You should list all of the ideas made by other people in the first post, and be as concise about the ideas as possible.

The way this thread is going, I'm thinking about starting my own. I've done this sort of thing before, a community brainstorm collection, without bias. Listed for easy absorption and idea spawning.

Good luck. If yours dies an easy death this weekend, I'll be making one.

actually i think it is a good idea to list the ideas in the OP and will start doing that (simplified versions at least). although i like giving as much detail as possible. details can still be debated.

Has anyone thought of a Chaff (UK) or Super RBOC (US) missile countermeasure module? These are active in the sense that they are fired into the air; but passive in that they don't emit any radiation. They would provide an alternative to AMS or LAMS.

EMP Module: Produces a 180 m radius EMP burst disabling all electronics and shutting down any mechs in area of effect for 20 sec. Capable of doing it 3x before it burns out for the remainder of the match.

Pros: able to take out exceptionally threatening targets fast.
Cons: leaves you vulnerable also due to your mech being shut down too.

Ok only a semiserious suggestion. LOL

Extended Jump jet range: Gives you 15% more JJ fuel.
Target scanner: Gives you extra info about your target. Engine type, ammo remaining.

I remember the MASC I think it was, from mech warrior 3. It gives a speed boost at the cost of increased heat when it's engaged.

I don't have an actual suggestions, I just love the topic and think it should be stickied. Maybe even taken over by a forum moderator and updated in the same manner as the original poster.
