I rounded down slightly, but this number is pretty much dead on with the values we're currently seeing represented by Jump Jets. Couple this with the pitiful vertical acceleration speed of the heavier (read as: non-Lights) Mechs and you've got an utterly useless measure of lift. To give you some idea of what this will look like: grab a Cataphract 3D or Catapult C1/C4/A1 and get as close as you can get to 27 Meters and then do a vertical jump. Now imagine that same distance, but slower.

Thanks PGI, thanks.

Jump Jets are pretty awful right now.

Well this is speculation based on no further changes prior to the intro of the mech.

Was your intention to phrase a question in order to establish a prediction of a future problem?

Because you failed.

Even before the JJ changes they were "meh" at best... I love it when the mechs I am shooting use JJs, nice easy targets.

In the current state this may be correct but I think I've read (or heard on NGNG?) that JJ are not in their final state yet, so maybe it will be 28m ;-)

Wouldn't it be great if it let you jump (i.e. you got some forward velocity out of it)?

Imagine if jump jets added forward accelleration when they were first pressed - and decellerated if pressed a second time. You could move slightly faster than other mechs. This could be compensated for by lowering the recharge time (so you could jump less often).

Yeah, since when is NGNG the place to go for info? Why is it so damn hard for the developers to put accurate info on their own site? Half the time it's "NGNG said" this or "Garth said on reddit" that. This is the least professional gaming company I've ever seen, and I've seen the Bioware forums.

without a major JJ change the highlander will be useless, same as the spider

which means we'll get the highlander in February and JJ changes in 2014

The only thing I use the 3Ds JJs for is combat brawling maneuvers, easy access to the mid-tunnel step in frozen, and clearing the annoying blocks in the water by the crashed ship in forest.

I was thinking about this and it might boil down to the utility on a certain map. PPCs are terrible on Frozen City. I know it's nice and frosty but the map and all that cover make getting some of those shots or finding a viable sniping position very hard.

There needs to be a map with a canyon or some other obstruction, somewhat like the cliff side on Frozen City, where you can fall in and have to take the long way out, jump jet out, or jump jet across instead of taking a bridge, etc.

I'll +1 you on nailing it, and good in game testing on how the heavy frames will respond to mass + Jump Jet intertia.

Yes, but you're ignoring the important questions, such as: can it plant it's foot in a mech's cockpit?

You must not have ever played at my table... I didn't jump much and 6 extra tons can to interesting things for a Highlander!

Yeah, but those 27 meters will only cost 6 tons, that's a great deal!

The Highlander will be absolutely redundant and useless.

Two missile hardpoints, two energy and a ballistic? You might as well take an Atlas cause nobody will be performing anything resembling a highland burial for a long time if ever.

The developers should have listened to the King Crab/Devastator lobby, it seems they are more deserving.

Actually, it was at http://mwomercs.com/

Paul already addressed the issue basically saying jump jets are under performing. It was shortly after the jump jet over fix.

Yeah, I'm terrified now. With 3 jets, the Highlander would have to start out higher than it's target in order to do a DFA attack.

That'll be OP for sure ;)

THe Highlander will probably be capable of some effective builds. Jets on a Highlander will be as respected as people attacking you with Flamers and Machineguns are today...A sign that you can ignore them for later as they're not a threat.
