It is myself and David B. who do the game balancing. Both of us are not programmers and you DEFINITELY don't want us playing with netcode. I'll let you and the rest of the community in on something. Netcode is our #1 priority on the engineering side of things. The guys working on netcode have touched nothing but netcode. They have nothing to do with game balancing or adding new mechs/maps/items. Their main focus is netcode. i.e. Finding problems, re-writing a LOT of code that is part of the engine and making sure it doesn't break anything back up the chain. This is a VERY long process and not something that is addressed in a few days or weeks for that matter.

You know, after reading that... I can only imagine how monotonous of a job that must be. To sift through screens and screens of code and trying to keep your !#%$ together so it doesn't break more stuff for people to complain about must be a tiresome job... for months on end.. 8 hours a day. Just netcode. And the next day, more Netcode. And Netcode for breakfast. And for second breakfast. Elevinsees? More netcode. I think after that long, I would grow to hate that word. Forbid it's use in my presence. And avoid the forums at all cost to save myself from insanity.

Heck, months of data entry that I had to do to convert a company over to a new system was down-right boring. Morning's were dry, and the last thing I wanted to do every time I walked into the store was to sit back down for 8 hours straight punching in: 011... 012V. 012N. 013V etc etc, and writing the same damn descriptions and prices and locations and suppliers and on and on and on and on for 100 parts straight with 12,000 more to go... your eyes go funny after just a couple hours and you become restless and WANNA THROW YOUR CHAIR AT THE WINDOW AND PUT A SCREW DRIVER THROUGH THE SCREEN O. M. G.!!!!!!

So, a kudo's to the netcode people working on the dry stuff playing "clean-up".
I know we haven't seen as much as we would like to show for their hard work, but that doesn't mean they're not doing it and probably feeling the same way, probably more often than I have.

Anyways: Netcode people, who ever you are.... /brofist

Bump for justice.

Where did you find that post? It should be pinned. In the announcements. So every time someone ******* and moans about "ooo PGI don;'t care about netcode", we can just link the ***** to this.

It impressed me enough reading it earlier to peel off some edges on my frustration with their development. Knowing they're working on it to the best of their ability is at least admirable and informative.

To the guys working on the netcode: keep up the good work. I know you're working hard. Don't listen to the haters, this is a really fun game to play. And I've even dropped some money on it, so extra kudos. I'll probably buy my first mech, that commando hero too (as long as he has ECM).

I'm stunned to learn that people needed it to be spelled out that bluntly before they'd accept it.

Of course the net specialists are the ones working on the netcode. What, people honestly thought that the design guys were in on it? Really?

The Devs also posted that if you live outside North America, expect problems. It's a F2P game in beta. If you live far away from the servers, just be patient.....or give them financial support.

Sorry, i dont see any changes for the better netcode from Closed Beta stage...
Last January patch ruin the game in mega-lags.
May be "admirable and informative" but i see only regress in game patch by patch.

People on these forums are pretty stupid and are constantly raging how PGI releases content but doesn't fix the netcode. Not realising that they aren't related.

Please, hire someone, or have a community mod dedicated to collecting posts like these, or just post them in one easy place for people to find? You could seriously improve the community here if this sort of stuff was more clearly communicated.

Agreed with all the above, I thank you for the tireless and thankless job that is coding a good videogame.

You mean... the guy that does the drawing... doesn't do the coding? But, they're in the same office! They can still help. They could just go over and give their artistic opinion on Lines 45006-67024.

Lol. It's so sad, isn't it? And everyone was saying it too. Well.. Almost everyone. I thought it was assumed, but to see it spelled out like that reminded me about data entry, and made me realize how much I hated that. And I never thought about the guys working on the Netcode like that. It was just "the netcode guys are working on the netcode" whoopie. like they're supposed to, but I forgot how mundane that must actually be. To do Every. Day.

It's not really monotonous, it's more like a puzzle that doesn't quite fit together and you have to figure out why - can certainly drive you nuts when you run into I-swear-it-should-work-except-it-doesn't situations.

So many years ago, in a different life, I lived the hell of coding. I put in thousands, no tens of thousands of lines of 23a,01b,04d,...ad nausea. After about 9 months of this, after producing yet another fix in less than 300 lines that got a look of 'well, about time' something inside me broke.

I was escorted off property when the smoking monitor set off the fire alarm.

Nothing but respect to the folks responsible for making this game happen. I've learned I sure as heck couldn't do it.

Wow you act like these guys are sorting through millions and millions of lines of jibberish that passes as a second language and are putting in 12 hour + days... ohhh wait they are! I tip my mech to our intrepid pasty faced cubicle monkeys!

It's amazing what a simple post in a forum, by a dev, can do to mollify the rage of the masses.

Let's hope we get more of it in the future.
