PGI decided against physical attacks in MWO many years ago.
Don't forget to point out it was because in one game versus GOON a PGI member was "dragon bowled" (at the time dragons had the best attributes for knockdowns for some reason).
Since the GOON trapped this developer in an area and instead of killing him, knocked him down on multiple occasion (and i believe posted the affair somewhere online)- instead of modifying their own code to tweak the frequency at which one can be knocked down, changing their own rules to state that consistent knockdowns without damage will be considered griefing, or any of multiple other changes that could have been made PGI decided to remove collision from the game entirely.
An entire feature of this game was removed because it annoyed a developer that one time.

One of the rare moments when Dragon was actually useful for something.

That's the meme, but the truth is that the collision mechanics in MWO were absolutely horrible. They looked atrocious visually, and being knocked down sent you into 3rd person watching a stupid get-up animation where you had no direct control over your mech, which complete broke the immersion of being a pilot. There was no way they could kept in the state they were in, so the option was to either remove them or remake them completely. And if they couldn't do them better removing them was a good decision. I'm pretty sure the decision was on its way with or without the gooning incident.
