Elo Matchmaking Pain

Simple. Let's say there are 10,000 people playing. Everyone starts with an ELO rating of 1300.
EVERYONE is 1300 starting off. Guess what? You are getting matched with other people that are around 1300 rating. That's everyone.
Your rating will eventually go up from your "easy" games and you will have a higher rating. Let's say 1900. Meanwhile all the people losing will get dropped to around 1000 to 1100. These people shouldn't be playing each other in the future. It takes games and games to get to a certain level.
Guess what rating brand new players in trial mechs get? 1300.
I use to run some USCF rated tournaments for schools years ago. It was always hard matching brand new players in a swiss-system based tournament. Most them would lose their first match. They were new to the whole scene. As more matches went on and these players got a rating it was easier for them to get match accordingly first few matches of a tournament.
MWO ELO is doing this all in 20 seconds amongst 100s of players. Your ratings are going fluctuate. It will take games and games. The current thought process is about a week worth of games. How many matches is a week's worth for most people? 20? 40? 70?
It's going to suck for a little bit then it's going to level out. It's when it doesn't level out that everyone as beta testers should start worrying.

It WILL take time to find your correct Elo plateau, the more you play the more accurate it will be.
We still have a huge pump of players, of various skill levels, stuck on/around the starting 1300. The more they play the more they will be stratified into their proper tier.

The reason matches are off is that for the past two weeks ELO has been calculated but drops have not been adjusted. That means that if you are better than the average player every match you played (statistically speaking) resulted in an increase of your ELO and if you were below average every match resulted in a decrease in your ELO.
The problem is that this means initial seeds are weighted more by number of matches played than by actual performance in those matches. It helped seed people but if someone was driving a specific class of mech to take advantage of their free premium (e.g. I knocked out elites on my JR7s) and *not* playing other mechs (I drove my Ilya for cash as well but didn't drive any of my mediums) then ELO for them is not well seeded yet.
It's gonna take time to get everyone where they should be and as people move into new classes (I still don't own an assault at all) or pick up and learn new chassis and weapons layouts they are going to be in the wrong place for a while until they establish the ELO rating for that new weight or get proficient with the new mechs and weapons. (E.G. when I buy an assault for the first time I will be seeding a new ELO whether appropriate or not. When I buy a TBT and start playing with LRMs for serious for the first time I will be doing it with the ELO from my HBKs while I learn how to judge where and when to fire LRMs, ouch.)

Relevant quote: "A dopplegänger is an exact double of you in every way. This is a dangerous situation for anyone, because this ************ is your equal in speed, power and cunning. He's tough, he's difficult to defeat, and at best you are basically going to have a 50/50 chance of taking him down."

Anyway, mostly you just need to give it time.

I win some, lose some, and almost never get into a 8-0 or 0-8 result, but long intresting fights.

I've lost all the weight classes besides heavy to the tier where it's comprised of only dribbling morans. Who invariably end up o my team.
I'll have pugstomp up with some people I can rely on, removing 3 derp brains from my team, snf who want to get their 3Ls or whatever it is they haven't used in the past couple weeks, out of the derp zone as well.

I think the third option would be the best way to handle it, but who knows?

That in the end is the question. Is it based on mech, class, or pilot? I hear varying information. I have quite a few mechs I haven't even used in months.

I am leaning towards that everyone has weight class elo scores
I get completely different matches in my heavies than mediums.
The mediums I have actually seen trial mechs much questionable tactics. not many real obvious premades.
In the heavies, it's all premades with painted up mechs, min maxed, mostly see 3Ls, 3Ds, Cats, elmos, STKs, and DDCs

Anyway, i thought that teams should be somewhat balanced tonnagewise (or at least assault vs assault.)

Nah. Weight class match making is either out completely, or makes so little difference to the actual match making results that it might as well be.
You'll probably continue to 5-6 assaults on one side and 2 on the other etc
