I had the pleasure of playing with a real ace the other day in Caustic. He was piloting a Catapult C1 or C4, I forget which, with PPCs and SRMs, and the dude was tearing it up. He was alone against two mechs in the end and just dancing around them like a boxer, it was one of the few times I've seen a Catapult pilot use jump jets properly, to avoid fire and to make rapid turns.

Getting stomped by a well coordinated team of good players is one thing, but I've never seen such a display of talent before. Granted, I don't watch twitch.tv or stuff like that, I don't follow this game like other people follow sports.

Anyway, who are some of the great pilots out there? Maybe someone will name the guy I saw, or bring others to my attention. Who are the pilots that make you go "Oh, ****. They have that guy. GG, fellas."

No need to nominate yourself, spare us the lulz.

"Who was the best pilot I ever saw? You’re lookin’ at ‘im." -Gordon Cooper

"From knowing himself and knowing his mech so well that he can come somewhere close to touching, in his own special and solitary way, that thing that is called perfection."

"I am always afraid of dying. Always. It was my fear that made me learn everything I could about my mech and my equipment, and kept me respectful of my machine and always alert in the cockpit."

"If you don’t think you’re the best pilot in the business, MAYBE you’re in the wrong business. If you think you could never make a mistake, you are REALLY in the wrong business."

"I don’t think I possess any skill that anyone else doesn’t have. I’ve just had perhaps more of an opportunity, more of an exposure, and been fortunate to survive a lot of situations that many other weren’t so lucky to make it. It’s not how close can you get to the enemy, but how precise can you pick him apart. If you feel so careless with you life that you want to be the world’s best in your face brawler you might do it for a while. But there are a great many former friends of mine who are no longer with us simply because they cut their margins to close."

Justin Allard

Full name: Justin Xiang Allard, Hanse Davion's Minister of Information. He's the son of Quintus Allard and for a time, a spy on Sian. He masqueraded as a traitor to the Federated Suns and went to Solaris VII, becoming Champion of the games there. Attracting the interest of the Capellan Confederation, he became an important figure in the Maskirovka and his information was largely responsible for the magnitude of the Federated Suns' victories over the Capellan Confederation in the Fourth Succession War. Falling in love with Chancellor Maximilian Liao's eldest daughter, Candace, they left Sian and Candace's holding in the St. Ives Commonality seceded from the Confederation. They had four children: Kai, Kuan-Yin, Cassandra, and Quintus. Taking over his father's job, Justin became Minister of Information, Intelligence and Operations, until his assassination by a Liao terrorist sent by Chancellor Romano Liao.

Kai Allard-Liao

The eldest child of Justin Allard and Candace Allard-Liao. He served with the 10th Lyran Guards during the Clan Invasion and engineered the destruction of the Falcon Guards on Twycross. Additionally, Kai became the most revered champion of Solaris VII, a world famous for its spectator-sport style BattleMech Tourneys.
Later he led the First St. Ives Lancers during Operation Bulldog, the main phase of the reformed Star Leagues military campaign to eradicate Clan Smoke Jaguar. After the end of the operation he joined Victor Steiner-Davion for the Great Refusal on Strana Mechty where he defeated Khan Vlad Ward of the Wolf Clan and achieved a draw against the Wolf Binary. He was released on his honor by his cousin Sun-Tzu Liao, following the St. Ives capitulation to the Capellan Confederation. At some point in 3067 he was rescued or possibly kidnapped by the Bounty Hunter and was sighted in the company of Duke George Hasek of the Federated Suns just prior to the Duke's assault against the Capellan Confederation. He was rescued by Death Commandos during the Capellan counter-attack. His subsequent actions currently remain unknown, however he was killed in the late 3090s on Liao during the Capellan Crusades against the Republic of the Sphere. He is considered one of the best MechWarrior of his age, comparable in skill with Natasha Kerensky or Phelan Kell.

Both Champions of Solaris VII.

Best players in this game? Obviously Wispsy has already earned an Ace title.

If you know nothing, then the one thing you absolutely have to know is that Wispsy is a force to be reckoned with. I've been on both sides of this guy. Talk about a challenge!

Claim ALL the lives!

Gammadin, she is the best American pilot of Spiders, Commandos, Cicadas and other light mechs I know of.

Saw a guy in a Spider with 2 MPulse finish off 4 of the enemy team on his own after the rest of us had died.

He didn't solo them or anything, they had already been damaged, but they all tried to converge on him and he just kept jumping over or behind buildings to where he was never really exposed to all of them and finished them off. He actually didn't even have any / much breached armor as I recall.

Another time was a K-2 pilot who was just that good of a shot that he took out 5 on my team before we were able to get him - and three of those kills were after he was the last one standing. I got lucky and killed him with my streakmando but he was nailing me at a full run. Mad accuracy.

I saw someone as good or the same pilot about 3 days ago. Forrest in the water, Me the Cat and a Spider left all damaged. I watched 2 high skill kills before I went down. Jetted up close above enemy torso elevation stayed there and danced side to side a little bit. One was a MPulse head shot and the other was srm kill. A thing of beauty.

Solaris VII tourney play is going to be so utterly good when they can do it. I would watch a formal show with commercials all.

I had one match on Frozen city, there was one (non 3L) Raven left..... and he took out three of us because he managed to keep behind ALL OF US ALL THE TIME, and I was in my fast dragon, with a CN-9D and cicada.... I had to give him mad props, wish I remembered his name....

Had the pleasure of dropping with some of the top 25 Assault pilots in the tournament. Those rankings are indeed well deserved.

Gotta give it up to one of our Tai-i, Sealawyer. Really, really good Assault pilot, deserves the #1 rank he's holding right now, and he pilots Lights just a well. Glad to have him in our unit, and on my side.
