Cheesefest 2013

On a more serious note:
There is nothing 'Heroic' about this tournament. It's much more tragic and infuriating then it is Heroic.
I have never, in all my time playing MW:O, made a QQ Thread. I have posted my concerns in posts before, I have never encountered anything so detrimental to my play-style that I thought it was necessary to go on the internet and complain to a bunch of people I don't know. So this is probably the closest I will get.
The amount of cheese this weekend is utterly smothering. You literally cannot escape it, be it Splatcats, Uberavens, or simply the ungodly over-abundance of LRM's that rain hot-death from the sky. I own a FLAME, and at first, I thought this weekend was a great time to grind out some C-bills with the Be A Hero Bonus. But that dream was quickly and brutally stomped out. I don't really mind Cheesecats to be honest, I didn't encounter them enough for it to be a real issue, but this weekend has made me, for the first time ever, question if I really want to keep playing this game. A1's are in every game I find, always one, if not two. LRM boats are just as plentiful, as are PPC Stalkers. In all my time in MW:O, I have never spent so much time cowering behind buildings, watching my bases cap meter tick away, and been so utterly helpless to stop it. I can either stay behind the building and take the loss, or prolong my teams suffering for a few brief seconds as I am torn apart by LRMs.
*Sigh*
I think it's time I took a break.

I don't even have problems with ECM anymore since I got more experienced. With a good five hundred games under my belt, I feel like i've about seen it all.
And I am loving this game more and more with every patch.

^This........ecm is not a problem.......splat cats not a problem, lrms.......also not a problem. People are playing better and tactics have adapted really well. I've been in since closed beta and this game has come a Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way since the days of HBK laser boats.

I too truly love the game, I really just think it's the tournament to be honest. The game IS getting better, and I have upwards of 800 matches underneath by belt, in none of those matches has it been as bad as it is now. Just my experience I suppose.

if you need a break just take it, things have changed drastically over this month and the ones after will change things all over again. look forward to that instead of thinking how things are at the moment.

Well ****, I had no idea this game was no longer considered in beta (read: the time where people discuss bugs and issues to be worked out so they don't make the final "release" product).

A game loaded with LRMs and PPCs?? Who could possibly have predicted that?

This tournament was the best possible way of making people play the most cheesiest builds without actually telling them to do so.

We lost so hard it was mind boggling.
But holy Kitten does my dragon look cool, and I can never get over how amazing its triple AC/2's sound.
Focus on what you love, Giant robots, duking it out.

Yeah, but as long as there's stuff like Splatcats out and about, there is no "duking it out." There's just horrible, terrifying, swift, confusing death.
Which has NEVER been what MechWarrior has been about, I may add. Unless you count MW4 multiplayer, and I certainly do not.

I pilot a SRM6x3 MLASx2 CN9-A, myself. And I love that build, but I just can't play it right now. I caught myself nearly getting in my Stalker before I realized how much worse that would be.

Speak for yourself. I spent some time getting my money's worth from Premium and went right back to playing Metal Gear Rising. It takes a stronger sort than I to deal with literally almost everything wrong with this game at once for extended periods of time.

umm... for all the wrong reasons, the lrms will die down again after the tourney, people are going for damage not kills to get scores up, srms are also as prominant as lrms and ppc's haven't been as prominant as they were just after the patch. also k2 trial mechs add to ppcs being fielded more. also ddc's have never been fielded so prominantly as they have been this tourney, ecm still has a say on dictating player behaviour.
mostly your predictated player base behaviour is wrong, catapults have done just as much if not more lrming than trebuchet atlas and stalkers. ppcs have been secondary to ac20's, i saw more whackpults and atlas srm ac20 combos than any ppc poptarts.
you only got it half right... sort of.

The tournament is more for the devs to be able to test to elo matching I think. Either way, its just one tournament in what I'm sure will be many to come. Of all different flavors. I'm guessing the devs are also looking at the feedback from this tournament and will take it into consideration for future ones.
The prize is really just a banner so its not that big of a deal.
Relax and have some fun. Stop thinking about what the game isn't and think about what it is. A way to relax and have some fun after a day at work or after putting the kids to bed. Don't make it into another stressful part of your life, otherwise you'll never have any fun at all.

Once the weekend is over, the cheese-to-abuse ratio will be back to its norms... right now is not that time.
A future weekend will have a group ELO test.. so you'll have some friends to complain to. Make sure you plan to take a break then too!
