That was a thing? Must have somehow skipped over that era of mice.

I got a Logitech G9x... not a bad mouse.

Mice are probably something your best actually testing at a store before you buy... I didn't do that, but luckily I like the mouse.

On the contrary, you should downgrade to a wired mouse.

My experience with wireless mice consists of jerky motion and batteries dying at inopportune times.

You must have had some bad wireless mice. My G700 is like floating on a cloud. I knew within the first hour of having it that I wasn't going back to a wired mouse anytime soon.

I just don't like the idea of having to remember to charge my mouse... and the chance of it going dead in the middle of me doing something.

If you got the spare bucks, get a G700, it's a very nice piece of hardware and not overloaded with buttons like some MMO gaming mice. You can also use it in cable mode if it runs out of battery,

I hear a lot of people mention the battery going dead in the middle of a match or something. Just in my personal opinion, this has never been a problem for me. I'm not sure if I'm just over-zealous with checking the battery indicator on my mouse (believe me, I am, I check it all the time) but I've never had the battery go dead on me in the middle of a match. I also keep a battery charger in the top drawer of my desk. I have a fully charged spare battery ready to go at any moment. This is mainly because I hate having to plug the cord into my mouse to charge it. I like a wireless mouse because it's wireless. Having to plug a cord into it to charge it completely counters the reason why I love it.

Most importantly, I absolutely love the fact that there's no cord to get snagged. Oh Em Gee I used to hate that so much. Also, I never appreciated just how much even the light weight, braided cables can weigh down and effect the movement of the mouse until I went wireless.

I highly recommend the Logitech G400. It's the successor to the immensely popular MX518. I've tried a number of others including the G500 and the G400 is definitely the better mouse in my opinion.

When my last Microsoft Intellimouse died, I picked up the G400 too. I really like the changing DPI on the fly feature. Good for sniping when you've had too much coffee.

I myself am using an MX518. It's still going strong after all these years lol.
Also, the best way to use a wired mouse is to make sure the cord is lax and there is no tension. Basically you want to make sure you have extra cord sitting on your desk so it doesn't tug on the mouse. (Assuming your USB connection has to go behind and below your desk).

That's another thing I like about the braided cord on the G600, it doesn't get pushy like the more plasticy cords can do if they get cold or in an awkward position, plus the mouse itself is weighty enough to not have any extra liveness from cordpush.

I got a G700, and while it does track really well for aiming the G10 button didn't make it through the first 2 hours of MWO.

The 4 buttons on the side for use with the thumb don't work for me, as when I try to push them I always go way off target. Maybe I could get better with practice.

The battery doesn't last long and alway fails at the worst time, so I keep it plugged in. The cable is stiff and....well I'm kinda biased about it due to a very poor experience with a big name online computer store. I had a $100 gift card but it still in the end cost me $3.75.

Yeah... it's a fantastic mouse. Cleaner/smoother motion over the g500. Also has a braided cord like some of the other nice mice out there. Cost isn't too bad either. I had an MX518 that died (after many years of use), I replaced it with a G500, then a while later replaced that with the G400.

One thing I did to my MX518 and G400 is sand/polish the logitech logo off the palm area. The raised logo on it annoyed me. Luckily it's a metal logo plate and can be polished to a mirror finish if you're very careful (I masked it with masking tape and then went to work on it multiple grades of sandpaper then polished it with a dremmel). :D

I should also note that I'm a 2D/3D artist and a mouse with excellent motion is a must for me and I'm really particular about that. I mostly only use the mouse with 3DS Max and gaming. I use my Wacom Cintiq for just about everything else when it comes to digital art.

Using a G500. It's a great mouse. Seeing as MWO doesn't have any mouse sensitivity settings, being able to quickly change between DPI settings is a must. I have a 250 DPI setting for playing MWO.

the important thing it a DPI switch on the mouse, so you can adjust it's sensitivity. Tech Republic branded mouse on new egg is very nice just a little over $30.00. has adjustable weights (I like a heavy mouse) just 6 buttons and a resolution switch button. very helpful.

dont know why they can't have a mouse sensitivity setting in game.

When it comes to computer peripherals, I always use Logitech. On top of my G500 I use a G110 keyboard.

The problem isn't so much the battery suddenly dying in a match, but rather as the battery starts to weaken in many mice performance is adversely affected - it'll cut out for fractions of a second, miss clicks, etc (I assume because the wireless data transfer gets weaker as the voltage drops).

New wireless mice are fine, but the batteries are only good for a certain number of charge cycles and a certain length of time. After a while, they just don't hold a good charge anymore, so you find yourself recharging the mouse more and more often. My experience over years and years of gaming and lots of different mice.

In comparison, my CMS:SA is over 4 years old, and is still 100%. Never the slightest problem, no worries about forgetting to charge it.

Also, light weight braided cables don't affect the mouse at all if you've got a well weighted mouse. That's very subjective thing though, of course. I like a heavy mouse, so it's not at all noticable. If you've got a really cheap light mouse, though, then the cable can be annoying.
