The cat K2 can be very flexible. Try this:
Sniper:
2 Gauss Rifles, 5 tons of ammo for the Gauss, 3 Med Lasers, Near max armor, 200 XL engine (yes its a bit slow), Endo Steel, tag (for support and help) and Double Heat Sinks.
I also take this...
2 Gauss Rifles, 5 tons of ammo for the Gauss, 2 Med Pulse Laser, 1 Med laser Near max armor, 195 XL engine (yes its a bit slow), Endo Steel, tag (for support and help) and Double Heat Sinks.
I have been thinking of adding an ER PPC, 2 Gauss Rifles, and restructing it - but I have not done it yet.
Alternatively, you can dump the Gauss and replace it with AC 20 and I with the extra tonnage I would throw in either a heavier engine or a Beagle probe and heat sinks (however, space is limited).
Personally, I use Cat A1s and Cat C4s as close range mechs andlet the K2 be a sniper. You need three Cat trees unlocked to progress to from the basic skills to the elite skills - so I play the cats as roles... C4/A1 as a splat cat - mostly SRMs and shorter range and the K2 for sniper and C1 for LRMs. That is just me, though
Thats the whole thing I'm finding out about the k2 (i just started playing one a few days ago) You are either going to throw more firepower into the chasis or sacrifce some for more speed. Its a matter of preference really.
Speed kills and lack of it will get you killed. I tried out a STD 200 engine with my AC20 build and it was just too slow for my liking. Powerful yes, but firepower doesnt mean **** when you are dead. Lights coming out of nowhere and circle strafing your *** to death isn't much fun. So I opted for more speed which allows me more wiggle room to leg one of those vermin.
Not to mention the extra speed allows you to position yourself quite well. You can get to and from cap points, or back to base, or even behind cover to avoid dmg from LRMs/other snipers.
EDIT: spelling
