7 years of daily abuse is hard to beat! If I could find another one I'd buy it today, but I did a search on it & it appears they dont
make it anymore. :-(

7 years!? I couldn't keep a Sidewinder for more than 2.
I looked up Saitek's store and the pickings seem rather slim. The Aviator looks both decent and ridiculous. As long as the buttons are programmable this thing might just do the trick...

At the moment i'm aiming for the "Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog" but i'm wondering how Torso Twists with Pedals compare to Torso Twist by Joystick.
As far as i know the Thrustmaster has no Z-Axis so you need to use Pedals for Torso Twists. And I don't want to spent shitload's of money on this nice Joystick and dump it after 2 Weeks because Pedal Torso Twist sucks.
Can anyone eventually post 1 or 2 Lines who used Pedals for Torso Controll back in the old days

Regards

What sort of set ups do people use for "steering" sticks? It isn't exactly a common set up, I imagine you would use the mouse for aiming up and down + torso twist and put steering and throttle on the stick?
I'm (still) curious how common the offhand stick (for movement) configuration is, does anyone use it?

Nope. Only a throttle with radial slider, like this...and pedals, probably. Mouse do the job far better than stick.

I have only ever used joystick for single player games. It's just 10 times easier to aim with your mouse. No matter what joystick you end up buying you wont get the same precision you will with a gaming mouse. It is however more fun to play with a proper joystick. I like the x52 pro myself but haven't tried that many joysticks as I mostly play with mouse and keyboard.
Sorry but your wrong.
I have played MW2 and MW3 in single player mode and then played MW4 and MWM in the NBT league and I didn't use anything other than a Sidewinder Joystick, and I was one of the best pilots in my time. I found the mouse to be awkward and clumsy, so it depends on your personal preferences. If you can kick *** with a mouse then use a mouse, if you prefer a Joystick then use a Joystick.
I have an old Sidewinder sitting in my cupboard that I have been saving for MWO, it's about ten years old and is still in perfect condition. However i'm thinking about buying a new logitech, but I will wait till the game is released before I do.

And anyone that is still holding onto their Sidewinder has the holy grail of joysticks.
I still have my old sidewinder, regular AND force Feedback, I don't use them anymore, but would NEVER even DREAM of letting them go.

I appreciate all the commentary, because I am wildly out of date on gaming accessories, and even though Amazon has a lot of reviews, it's better to get the feedback closer to the users in MWO.

It has some glitches, not big ones just annoying at times (trim axis jumps a little at times when throttle is moved very fast). I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation, my experience with this stick has been very good so far. I have had it since December 2011 with no problems at all yet.

Also, putting some No-Skid shelf lining underneath the Joysticks helps allot to keep them from moving.
