Logitech 3D extreme pro is a solid joystick for a mechwarrior game. It has all the axis' u need, vertical, horizontal, torso twist and throttle

Joystick and Mouse FTW!

I use a logitech Extreme 3D pro with variable Axis settings. I can configure the X axis to turn the mech, the Y axis as a throttle, I can ignore the actual throttle and use the mouse for torso movement (ie targeting). This was the way I played MW2, MW3, Starsiege, and most recently (thanks to the Logitech stick) I can now play that way with MW4. I'm hoping for similar abilities with MWO Mercs.

Sidewinder joysticks have been discontinued for a long time. So, it's not exactly a good start point unless you want to spend money on a used joystick, or hundreds of dollars for a boxed one. Logitech is a good starting point with their cheaper sticks, though.

Yeah, they may be a bit dated, but they're rugged as hell.
only issue I had was the tendancy to tip the joystick a bit when playing. so I made a small box to put it in and filled it with some weights.
I can't really recommend CH's pedals. They're really not that great. I just programmed one of the hat switches to do torso twists.
That's 176 programmable functions per controller :) Never have to take your hands off the controls.

Yep! I own and love both of those! I hope to pick up the MFP from CH Products too! http://www.chproduct...retail/mfp.html

Currently have a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro myself...Unfortunately though it has recently stopped registering right tilt/turn, so my 'Mechs are forced to emulate NASCAR and make only left turns!

Do any of you Use the Rudder peddles for your torso twist feature? And if so how do you feel it compares to having the torso twist on the stick?

I killed several joysticks during my mercs days, and then i switched to a gamepad, once i got used to it i never looked back.
A lot less physical strain, and much more durable

I've almost always used mouse and keyboard, but I got a Logitech Attack 3 stick not long ago, which I've been training to use. The buttons and throttle for the off-hand are somewhat hard to use, but the nice thing is that I can still bind stuff to my keyboard and use that as necessary, and the stick itself is quite nice (a trigger, plus four other buttons that are easy to access).

Logitech has the best set-up for the price. Comparable to Sidewinder 2 FF Pro's fine tune control. I am using a Logitech Force 3D Pro and it's recognized in all games. It works well in all games because you can adjust the Deadzone and Sensitivity per game for precision. IMHO that's the most important requirement a joystick has to meet.

I have tried Saitek and others and they have always been weak on fine control and don't work in some games... even ones listed as supported. I haven't tried the X-52, but too expensive and I have had to toss Saitek's Cyborg because it wasn't working in some games and could never equal the Sidewinder's control.

... still holding on to a Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick and hoping that the developers will find a fair gameplay solution, so that keyboard and mouse users will not have an advantage over joystick users (possibilities could be to slow down mouse movement and accuracy, to allow less precise mouse targeting movement or to lengthen target locks in comparison to joystick users) ... I wonder, if Microsoft will consider producing Sidewinder joysticks again in the case that MWO will have a very successful start and attract lots of players ... we'll see, let's hope for the best ...

I'm going to be rocking the Thrustmaster Warthog. Probably going to be able to map everything on the HOTAS setup.

I'm looking at getting a saitek cyborg V.1 for a lefty stick while I use the mouse in my right hand, unless MWO is set up in some what that a joystick is better for aiming, in which case I'll be using my sidewinder precision pro (so duel sticks). I also have a Sidewinder 3D, but the adapter costs as much as the cyborg and has more buttons which makes it more useful for my purposes.

What sort of set ups do people use for "steering" sticks? It isn't exactly a common set up, I imagine you would use the mouse for aiming up and down + torso twist and put steering and throttle on the stick?
