Hi,

Im quite a new player, and bought the STK-4N.
After realising that I better should have bought the 3F, I am stuck with it and try to find a build that suites my needs.

My goal was to have an easy to play build and easy heat management.

This is my current build:

So far I am happy with it, but I would like a bit more power in long range, 450m is ok, but not great.

Any suggestions to improve on that?
I still learn to not to overheat too often.

Thanks.

You're welcome. It's easy to use and heat management is pretty straight forward. If too hot, don't fire your laz0rs.

Yuck, this variant sucks.

Personally I don't find laser sniper builds very effective, your mileage may vary. I do not find Stalkers very good unless it utilizes both the energy and missile slots. Generally, lasers are hard to track fast targets, and missiles can't hit anything under ECM.

PPC one trick ponies like the 6 PPC build are ok. But it takes an XL engine for the more potent builds. Do not recommend.

Maybe a build to try, decent sniper punch with 2 PPC, 4 ML for anything closer and faster. SSRM6 for non-ECM lights.
2 PPC, 4 ML, SSRM6

Truth told, there are really advantages between any combination of SRM, LRM, SSRM, Medium Lasers, Large Lasers and PPCs.

Thanks for the input.
I will give the 2 PPC build a try.

The 6LL build is very slow, and I dont want to go back to the 255 Engine.

Just an update to my STK-4N.

I tried the 2 PPC build, but I am so used to lasers now, I often miss with PPC.
Second drawback is Streaks unable to fire under ECM cover.
Thrid minor is the need for a 3rd button to fire. (I mapped it to mwheel_up)

I went back some time ago to my starting build and refined it with removing Endo-Steel and adding a DHS:

Now the patch of yesterday did improve this build quite a bit.
I do more damage with lasers and the Artemis+SRM6 are even more awesome.
Two button easy play :)

Nine battles yesterday:

Mech Played Wins Losses Ratio Kills Deaths Ratio Damage XP Time
STALKER STK-4N 9 6 3 2.00 21 4 5.25 4,342 11,434 2,610

Most of the time I was under the first three.

The best thing, my STK-3F is almost ready for combat, still missing some credits.

I feel like you're under-utilising the available hardpoints in favour of speed on a mech that just doesn't like going fast. But it's pretty solid. When you grab the 3F, upgrade with ES (if it fits) and DHS, use spare tonnage for extra HS and ammo. Then just try running it as stock, treating it like two different weapon systems. They can be highly effective, especially since you have LRMs and LLs to compensate for your horrible speed.

I map my group 3 to mouse wheel click, by the way. Never really run with more than 4 groups, and the 4th is usually something I can hit once and forget (streaks, LRMs, etc).
