I was shooting jenners out of the air with SRMs, headshotting Atlai - it was amazing. And yes I was pretty much just charging them at this point, but did I feel like a hero killing as much as I did and lasting as long as I did (most games anyway :)).

this is a great description. I really began to feel like, one with my Centurion until about two hours till the end (then I just felt like a zombie). Still, I was making snap shots with the AC/10 like 1000 meters away without thinking about the lead and one shotting lights with SRM blasts, I'm pretty sure some of my shots the person who got hit must have been thinking "WHAT A AIMBOT HACKER!"

I'm famous now? Oh god... I'm not sure if that's good or bad.

I did get recognized in a few matches over the weekend. Weird feeling...

I spend way more time on the forums than I do in game to be honest... I might have actually had a chance to be on the leader boards if I spent the time playing the game instead of on the forums.

For the record I played 56 matches over the weekend, heh. (37-19)

Being recognized sucks. There was a 2 hour stretch on Sunday where I was getting super frustrated, feeling paranoid that everyone was gunning for me, seemingly ignoring teammates and such. Bitching about it to people on vent, getting internet angry at dying constantly. And then towards the end of that stretch, I think it was Starburster posted in all chat by accident to focus me down first.

Unfortunately for you, everyone can do that, for everyone.

I am not sure why you believe Broceraptos - or anyone - did it for the banner and the recognition. Some people climb mountains just to see if they can, not because that will lead to fan mail. Heck, some might not do it if they'd know all the hatemail they get for it. "Jerk, if you're a great man, you would cure cancer!"

His constant posting on the forums about it tells me he did it for the fan mail. People who do 5hings just todo them dont need to talk about it all the time. Nice try tho.

Simple ELO test for all the wrong reasons and executed poorly.

Actually, the Elo is working pretty good. I had the best matches I've ever had in the game yesterday.

Obviously a flawed "tournament," but much respect for recognizing it for what it was, coming up with a plan to reach the goal, and executing it!

Oh man, I felt the same way. I ended up at 28 on mediums at the end of Friday night, and I just said screw it and ended up playing 8 mans Saturday. Those hours and hours of solo queue were mind destroying, but damn if I wasn't playing at my best I had in a long time by the end of it. My Centurion, Hunchback, and Trebuchet became worth twice their weight, and I was routinely dealing 400+ damage with 3 or so kills, and as many assists as possible in matches were almost everyone was dealing that much damage.

I just didn't have the heart, or the time, to grind all weekend. I did way too much of that back in World of Warcraft.

I'm glad you did a write-up. It should clear up what happened to many people and hopefully it will lead to better events in the future. At least you walked your dog man, that's a big thing. I hope you didn't forget to feed him though! -_-

No doubt...SRM vs lights Zen-Buddism was insane at times...

That being said, i also dropped against a slew of leaderboard lights in forest colony....ruthless...picked me apart forever, and nicely left me to zombie the rest of the match :)

^^^This! I had a horrendous stretch...something like 15 straight losses...half of which on Alpine...so much time spent in that block for almost no gain. I had nerd rage for a little bit there, and I know exactly what you mean by zerg focus fired for no good reason other than to say Hello

First Congrats to Broceratops for the overall win!

However,

- This was the first time I felt this game was a MMO. I loved constantly dropping with the same people on the leader-board over and over. Everyone was on the same boat and there was a tremendous level of politeness and respect despite us being in competition. In the end, I wanted us all to win.

<snip>

- Second, I really hope you take your numbers, take the feedback from the feedback thread, and make it better because this wasn't that good for a lot of people. I want everyone to be able to participate in stuff like this and I know you guys do too. Frankly, you need it to happen because stuff like this (done right) is what can keep MWO from just being an arena shooter, and be an actual MMO shooter.

I'm not sure how a tournament that involves playing in an arena shooter makes this any more of a MMO than... an arena shooter... with a structured tournament.

Just think if you wanted to be a high warlord in World of Warcraft back in the day you had to do this but for a whole month lol!

This is one of the reasons why people hated MMOs like WoW (and WoW subsequently removed that style of ranking). It not only required that you play a lot, it required that you play constantly, more often than not to the exclusion of doing anything else.

Also IIRC, this style of gameplay may be what is in store for earning player ranks in the House factions if/when Community Warfare comes into play. Players will earn ranks within the House armies not only through performance, but how often they play, and if you don't play for some amount of time, your "loyalty score" could degrade and your (active) rank will drop. So if you want to be the Supreme Grand Marshall or whatever top rank (and maintain it for any period of time) for whatever House you're playing for, expect to not "have a life" other than that of being constantly glued to MWO.

only thing worse than telling people I played a game for 40+ hours to win a banner would be to tell them I tried to play 40+ hours to win a banner, ended up only playing 20+ hours, and failed to win anything.

Only reason I didn't get caught up in the same dilemma was that I didnt want to win it at any point, just wanted a screen of top 30, then top 20... I realized its a cakewalk getting up so continued pushing, finally at around 8th things started to get slow, I was doing progress so could of ended up around 4th place in a few hours, but with school tomorrow, I just took my screen and left.

Ps: with a prize actually worth winning next time, I'll need to be reckoned with bro! :)

What PGI should add as a camo for the winner...

Have a "t-shirt" like mech camo that says "I did it all for this stupid banner". Should be included free for the winners.

Oh gods Broceratops, your post made me smile and laugh till I cried!! I had all the same feelings and thoughts you had, except I didn't think sleep was an option if I wanted first place in mediums (and still lost it in the last hour, I don't even want to think about it).

Staying awake for an entire weekend was perhaps one of the roughest things I've had to do but yet I am glad I tried. I felt like a part of a community and that MWO was definitely getting to a place where matches were fun seeing the same people and making some friends and enemies along the way. Couldn't get much better.

The one thing holding me back was terrible carpal tunnel. My right hand would get so pained I had to run it under hot water then cold water to even use it. I endured through pain and sleep deprivation and came out 2nd in mediums. I'm not proud (a little ashamed really, lol) but I am most assuredly happy about it.

You know, even if this "tournament" wasn't much of one, it was still awesome to have ELO start working and to start running into some great pilots. I ran into Bro a few times, as well as plenty of others. The games started of pretty frustrating, but as the night went on, everything seemed to even out and reach a peak. It got really, really good, and I was having a pretty fun time, even with the flaws that we undoubtedly saw boil to the top with the gameplay and the metagame.
